My first year in Idaho
« on: March 21, 2012, 07:54:26 PM »
:chuckle: I am gonna join my family in Idaho this year for the general rifle season and I am excited!  My grand father has shot some nice bucks out there and I want to make sure I get to join him this year.  Any one else going tht way if so for what?  Rifle hunting should be a blast and I've never been to Idaho so I'm interested in seeing the country.

I grew up in Lewiston and wish I had never left. The deer are starting to come back now north of Moscow. The wolves, disease and a couple bad winters took there toll on them. I haven't hunted over there since 2006 because of it. I have sent some customers that way and they have brought back some nice bucks. I'll start hunting it again in the next couple years. Good luck!

Sweet!  I can't wait.  My family does good out there muley hunting but have experienced the same in there unit.  I haven't rifle hunted in four years beside
Taking my old lady out this year and she shot one within an hour.  My family always waits for bigger deer but I'm willing to shoot a smaller buck.  Should I hold out for a 3 point?   If I shoot a spike or a two point would tht be a waste?  I know I would be content but for the quality of deer out there?

If I was paying $400 to $500 for a NR deer tag, I don't think I'd shoot an immature deer, at least not on the first day.   :twocents:

I would be going for at least a week maybey two probably hold out for a mature buck the first week and then it's any legal!  I'm getting a wolf tag as well figured I'd do my part with tht.  The hunt with my grandfather is gonna be the trophy for sure, buck or no buck.  I have a Winnie lever 30 30 I got from him years ago I would like to use tht but I imagine it won't have enough range for the terrain it's open sights.  I'll probably buy a 7 mm for this trip and bring them both.
