Finally an idea to put my box of sheds to good use!
« on: April 09, 2012, 01:57:45 PM »
While watching a show the other day I saw a old log cabin with a full 4-point mule deer antler as a door handle and the light bulb went off.

We're building a cabin that will have 2 large sliding barn doors on bedroom entrances and I'm thinking a full deer or elk antler would make the coolest door handle.  I'm trying to figure out the best way to do it, but I'm thinking of grinding a little off a tip or two to make sure there are at least 3 flat points of contact on the door, drilling a hole through the antler at each point of contact and installing with small bolts.  Anyone ever tried this and have some pointers?

The Mrs. didn't like the sound of it so much because, you know, she would have to touch the antlers but I'm forging ahead anyway.  Sometimes a good idea doesn't need secondary approval.  Know what I mean? ;)

I have seen others that cut the Antler tips and put them as if they appear like they are impedded in the door.  They can look really cool if done right

All i know is this...sometimes its easier to ask for forgiveness then permission  8)

Using antlers as handles looks awesome.  Ive got a collection of little forked horn sheds...im thinking at some point i will use them as cabinet handles
