Racing a fawn!
« on: July 08, 2012, 06:34:17 PM »
Last night I was sitting on a clearing hoping to see a buck i've been getting on my camera. He never showed up, but I did see something pretty cool.
I was glassing the clear cut when I spotted a bobcat down on the lower road. He looked around a bit then dissapeared ino the brush. about 10 min later I heard a bunch of noise up behind me. I turned around to see a doe hauling a$$ up the hill with the cat right behind her. He was making a loud snorting type noise kinda like blowing air.Thats how I was able to find him in my binos.
The doe was able to avoid him pretty easy it seemed. She ended up circling around to where she started, and sat there snorting and warning everyone.
That went on for awhile. She sat there looking for him. I kinda thought that maybe the cat had gotten the fawn.
It started getting pretty dark and I could barely see the doe anymore so I started down hill on my mtn bike. When I was directly below the doe the fawn jumped out and was hauling a$$ down the road right in front me. The road is pretty steep, and my brakes suck so we were racing side by side for a bit until the fawn realized I was right next to him. He put it into another gear and started pulling ahead, and I was able to start nursing my front break enough to slow down a bit.
I was glad to see that bobcat didn't get him this time.

You're lucky they didn't run into you or cut in front of you.

Normally when they race our van pool they finally decide to try their luck and cut in front of us to get to the other side of the road.   :bdid: Sometimes they even run into the side of a big white moving 12 passenger van.  :bash:
