Anybody on the smallies yet?
« on: May 04, 2012, 09:37:29 PM »
Hey all,
Just wondering if there are any good reports for smallies yet on the Yak or Columbia?  I know its about that time and I can't wait.

Ya I thought so too but just seeing what some of the other "spots" people are hitting that may be an indication of the migration happening.

They are in full swing.

Three of us got 10 up in the Dalles pool last Thursday, still seemed a bit slow.  About half and half on rubber and cranks, with a couple 3 pounds and one 4 pounder.  Water temps were running 51 everywhere we went.  Fished Vacouver area yesterday and not a nibble, water real high and dirty w/ temps at 50.

Maybe a couple more weeks?

The way it was heating up 2 weeks ago I thought it would be full swing.  I went out again, Saturday for 3 hours and landed 5 fish.  :(      The averaged about 3 pouns with one pig that went almost 5.  Water temp in main river still only 54 degrees.

When it gets hot, you can catch 20 an hour....great fun, especially for the kids.

Went out today with my dad and my boy.  We landed 20 or so in a couple hours fishing.  I thought it was pretty slow but they were running a tournament today out of hood river so there were a lot of boats on the water.

The few we got were mostly just gold colored, the people around us all got smallys that had the black stripes like yours.

was at the bass tourney on banks this weekend and did ok. i pulled my limit plus every day but the fishing was slow. all the local pros were having trouble. average bag was 12 pounds for five fish. wish it would have been a little more active but all in all a great time.

Good job! I have a friend that fished that tourney and he said it was not the best, by any stretch. I have a 3 day weekend planned for over there next weekend. Hope it picks up a bit. Looking like some good wind will be blowing next Saturday. Bummer.

I just got back from 9 days of fishing on Banks. The lake was high when we arrived, then they dropped it like crazy then back up 4 to 5 inches before we left. Bass fishing was off and on but some days were very good with some big smallies and largemouth. The Walleye fishing was insane. More big fish (25in to 29in) than ever before, caught lots of fish on crank baits in very shallow water (4 to 6 feet), right in with the bass. I think it was cause we had a lot of winds that pushed the bait fish in shallow. The trolling for Walleye was also very good but most of them we caught trolling were from 18 to 22in. in 10 to 16 feet.

Thanks for the info! Good to hear. Never caught a walleye but am hoping to get into a few on accident.
