Need bear advice, partner, or chance to swap hunts!!!
« on: July 02, 2012, 03:03:48 PM »
I love hunting and am experienced,  and have been at it for the past 5 years while going to college.  I have successfully taken my first deer last year with a bow, tagged out on turkey, and filled my limit on ducks throughout January.  Currently I am back in school finishing my masters degree which doesn't leave me with a whole lot of time or money.  I am dying to have another great season but am really hoping to take a bear and elk.

I am located in western wa close to I-90 right outside of Issaquah.  Since I am fairly busy I don't usually have a great deal of time or money to do extensive scouting, which is a big hindrance going after bear w/o being able to use bait.  Given the time needed to travel to and from potential areas, gas cost, and scouting time, it just doesn't seem like enough resources to put forth a good effort. I am very ethical and safe in the woods and am hoping to contact people who share the same views.  I'm easy to get along with and can share good conversation.

I am very willing to put in the time and effort when available but could really use a starting point on where I might have some luck seeing bear.  I know the snoqualmie area and areas off highway 18 have been known to hold a lot of bears, and they have been having problems with the bears in residential areas.

I totally understand that many if not all of you have put in many hours and lots of $$$ to find your honey holes and wouldn't expect anyone to give exact locations.
However, If anyone knows of any private property owners looking to get rid of a problem bear or are just open to helping an enthusiastic hunter I would be so grateful.  Even if anyone can suggest locations that fairly accessible you would be making my bear season a possibility.

I have a pretty sure thing on black tail as long as your a bowhunter, and would be happy to trade hunts if you are looking for a deer this year and are in the same position as me regarding time and money restraints.  If anyone is looking for a partner or someone to go after bear with and don't mind taking me along I would be happy to share gas costs, and help with packing in/out equipment!!!!

Also very willing to help with any projects, yard care, farming or anything else in exchange for tips or a location to hopefully take my first bear!!!!!!!!!  Anyone with a coyote problem that needs taking care of I would be your guy as well !!!!!

Willing to hunt with bow, pistol or modern firearm.  I would love to take with a bow, as I think it would be great to take all my first big game animals with a stick and string but and totally excited to use my rifle on something other than a coyote!

Any advice, info, techniques, locations can greatly help me put down my first bear and would be happy and willing to exchange any services or help for your knowledge.  THANK YOU!

I would love to be able to do that as I've heard you will learn enough to make it extremely worthwhile.  However being a grad student I just can't come up with the thousands most guides charge.  I've heard Quinault has successful guided hunts but again they are 1500 and up which I just can't afford.

And as far as the guarantee I know everyone has heard that many times before but this happens to be on my private property which several feed areas and they are here nearly everyday.  So if someone has a few days a week they can fill a tag for sure!!!

they will be thinking with their bellies,so find some good feed sources and scout them and watch them...they have 28 noses and can also smell a tulip through their ass, :chuckle:

Buy a bear hunting book. Buy a trail hiking book for your area. That should be enough to figure it out. It really isnt that hard to get one. If you spend the time (at the right time) good luck

Theres a TON of bears from Issaquah to Snoqualmie Pass. Look at topo maps and Google Earth to learn some country. Then lace up your boots and get up high with a spotting scope/binos and sit and watch. Ive been seeing about 75% of my bears this year on south facing slopes around 1-3pm, and up near the ridges. Just remember bears think with their stomachs. Wild berries (strawberries, blueberries, and even wild mushrooms and onions can be a heavy part of their diet) None of the bears I see want anything to do with ANY on my 75 foxpro sounds either, so I wouldnt waste my time trying to call one in. Hope that helps, and good luck!Search on here too, lots of good info to read.

You should not have to go far to find bears outside of where you live. Just find some places to hike that are not taken over by hikers, make sure you can hunt the area, find black berries.....hang out in the evenings and mornings....take naps during the day...bears will come.

Best of luck to you!
