So for clarification, you have to give examples of all three types of elk noises????

Sucks for me.. I do awesome calf/cow calls... can not bugle/chuckle/grunt for *censored*...   :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.

You could still do well.  You could use cow/calf sounds for 40 seconds and only bull sounds for 20.  Who knows through practice you might be an awesome bugleler by time its over.

Bonkellekter,

I have been debating on that one.  Let everyone have a chance or let the forum narrow it down then just judge the final ten.

My only concern that way would be if people pushed their own or buddys through (everyone here is pretty good and I wouldn't expect that).  I'm open to suggestions on this.  I don't mind going through and scoring each one.

Either way the voting goes shouldn't matter too much... I just like the idea of going thru all of the different entries, like you mentioned to help prepare and learn new sounds for the upcoming season

So are you asking for calls that actually turn on elk or the usual stuff that everyone blows that turns on hunters and not elk? There is a big difference.

I've spent 15 years studying/learning about local elk and their vocals. I will judge based on what I think REAL elk sound like (sounds and noises I have heard).  The other panel members may have different criteria.

The Primetime Crew is going to help out by throwing in some T-shirts, DVDs and a havalon piranta to be added in somewhere

Jason,
Thanks.  I won't participate as I am too junior of a caller and frankly, I'm afraid I'd make myself look really bad.  If it works, I'd like to hear the top ten too.  Thanks

You would never make yourself look bad bud. No one should look at it like that.

Great idea Jason! Love it.

One idea for people like sniperdan is maybe set up 3 classes. beginner/intermediate/pro etc.

If we can get enough sponsors into it maybe we can have a 1-3 in all 3 areas. Just good for thought. Like me I can blow a great cow call and bugle just fine. I would call myself intermediate because I don't have that many years elk hunting under my belt. People like you and elknut and a few of these other guys are for sure pro's and know the sounds much better then some of us.

If Elknut is allowed to participate, I wont bother to fill out the application and will instead just send my application money straight to him.

I am all for different classifications, as long as everyone is honest, like you said my biggest problem I would have is funding prizes for all three levels.  I will see how this plays out and see if I can make it happen.

I would love to do this, but my thoughts would be just a judging on sound not a video.

wrongway, that's most likely how it will go.

I am working on a workflow that will be easy from video camera or recording device, to the computer, to me all using free software, or you will be welcome to use your own as long as I get the .mp3 or .wav file.

sounds good, someone brought up the different classed and yes I would be interested in this, I have never entered an elk calling contest, but would consider myself better than a armature but not a pro. what are your thoughts

I think it would be  ! ...
Im in.
My only problem would be, in order to sound like real Elk, I rarely call that much in a minute, let alone 20 seconds.
A minute for each is standard..
