im looking for a mountian bike for bowhunting. i looked at one yesterday they wanted 559.00 for it seems kind of expensive. would i be better to go to wally world and pick up a mongoose or something.

Check Craigslist. There are always decent bikes for decent prices on there. I wouldn't by crap from Wally World. :twocents:

If its simply for hunting I wouldnt spend that much. I also wouldnt buy a cheapo at Wally world, they won't stay in tune and you will be stuck with a bike that doesn't change gears well and pedals like crap. Personally I would look for a decent used bike on Craigslist. You can find find older bikes with good components pretty cheap. Take It to a bike shop for a tune up and you will be way happier than if u pick up a Walmart bike

I got a Trek and my wife got a Specialized off craigslist, $145 each. They are in good shape, work well, and didn't break the bank. Deals are out there, you just gotta look!

Dont forget gargage sales. Got mine 2 years ago for 5 bucks. :IBCOOL:

I would have to agree. It is actually the opposite of what you might think. You want a good mountain bike for hunting with DISC brakes. You cant be rolling through the woods, clanking gears, squeeking brakes. I know this because I went the Walmart route and it did not turn out the way that I had hoped.
Just my 2 :twocents:

I got a new one this spring and I have my old one. I've sent you a PM on it.

I have the perfect bike and it is for sale. You won't find a better bike for less. Specialized Rockhopper with hard tail and front shocks. I have owned this for a while and I bet it has less than 50 miles on it. It is in perfect condition, I just hate riding bikes. $250 takes it. OH Yeah, I am 6" and it fits me really well. I can send pics this weekend when I get home. Please don't hesitate to ask questions. I paid $650 years ago, but again it is in like new condition.
Johnny
PM me for info

Stay away from the Walmart bikes, they are junk! I would look into the the Specialized that jrebel has for sale. That is a good bike for the money and would be great for hunting purposes. If not, a bike with an aluminum frame, front suspension and disc brakes is what I would look into. $400-800 will get you a quality bike brand new. Components (front and rear derailleurs, shifters) are also important to consider when looking into bikes. Bikes with a higher price tag will have better quality components.

i am a certified bike tech, that rock hopper a good deal. if you were gonna buy a walmart bike your gonna spend 250 any way to get one that has the features you want and its not goona be as good. stay away from scram shifters! they are garbage. Mongoose Snarl 26" Men's All-Terrain Bike is gonna be the cheapest one you can get through wall mart that will do the job. but if you go that route plan on pm'ing me since your gonna need some one to go through the bike and adjust everything for you. they hire a guy who puts the barbeques together to build the bikes also :bash:.
