Anyone have any luck? Banks were a zoo today but fish were being caught.
-
Man I would love some info on this fishery! I have never fished it before... Any info for a newbie out on the Skagit?
-
The only info I have was out of the news paper. Fishing is ok. So far it looks like the bank anglers plunking with small pink spin and glo's are out fishing the boat guy's. Sounds a lot like fishing for pinks. Tip your hook with a piece of sand shrimp. Look for jumpers and fish in front of them. Good luck, I hope to get out there someday.

river running high and quick.. Min. of 8oz for plunking.

Boy Im thinking about going early next week! I heard that people are catching using standard drift gear, of course in pink with shrimp or shrimp scent. Plunkers are catching, as well as a few being caught off floats and jigs. Im just going down prepared for whatever! Anyone know of good bank access starting points? Not asking for any choice holes, just community spots to start at.

I would love to know some good spots and what to use. I really do not know much about fishing in the area so I am learning on the fly. Any advice is appreciated.

its slowing down a little ...most people did not realize how many fish have been cought in the last couple weeks ...now the indians are in for the remander of the opening ,,,, July 15 th ....you can still catch some here and there ....tough to find a spot off the bank ...People everywhere :yike: :yike: :yike: :bash: :bash: :chuckle:

Is it like that during the week too? I would rather go then anyway... :)

I think today is the only day we did not catch sheet .....Indians must of slowed it down just a little ... plus it is pouring rain and I decided the coffee pot sounded much better :chuckle: Yes if I was you I would try going during the week or if not then try to find a tunnel in the bushes and work toward the river ...thats what I do to get away from people ..... little work and you can catch fish and have a great time !
-
here is how we catch them .... just add sandshrimp to the hook and you are good to go ....

Been catching fish. As mentioned sandshrimp is the ticket and show up at 4:30 am.

Looks like you are plunking?
-
I know some of you may consider this a stupid question but what is plunking?

If you show up at that time on the weekends, your going to be a spectator.

water is really high right now .. but it should be prime time by the 4th ....only caught one today but lost another and missed a couple ...had my chance to limit but sockeye usually win more than you do ... very soft mouths .... :bash:

10-4 good buddy ...thats the way I like it ..

Caught one yesterday off a boat, the bank has plenty of access if you use your tools (google maps).

Terence, plunking is casting out from shore usually using an appropriate sized weight to keep in one place in the current. A tri-swivel tied a couple feet up from the weight, with your bait of choice tied to the tri-swivel. this keeps your bait of the bottom and lets it show some action.
This setup can be used with bait and lures like spin-n-glows.

How should those beginners set the hook. Should we set on the first bite, or wait 10 seconds or... :dunno:

well It has been one of the best sockeye seasons I ever seen ... Went on sunday and caught 2 but lost way to many to talk about ... those soft mouth little buggers ....plus sockeye fight for their life once they see ya on the bank ...just go nutz ...one of the most jumpiest fish besides a silver ...Got to work a little today and then I may stay home for the remander of the season which ends on July 15 ...Still fish to be caught so stay with it if your fishing ....
