Great looking photos!  Every time I see cool cloud formations that I think would make a good photograph...... the camera is at home. >:(

Thanks for sharing the pics grandparichard

Reminds me of a day I'll always remember when I was camping with my kids when they were young. We had finished setting up a tent in Mt. Rainier NP, dinner was done and we were watching the afternoon turn to evening. There were large formations of cumulus clouds forming and changing shape continuously. We were playing a game of trying to find images in the cloud formations...faces, animals, etc.
It was great to just share a simple game with kids and see their imagination work. This was long before cell phones, iPads, Facebook, Twitter... How many kids today ever spend time looking at the clouds?

You can be darn sure my grand-kids will.

Thanks GPR! I was practicing on clouds with rainier in the back ground the other day. You have some great ideas!

Question for both you guys, are you getting that good of results straight from the camera or do you have to do something post shoot?  I only ask because I take a lot of photos and just don't get focus, color, etc. that jumps out the way you guys do.  I'd blame my camera, but I'm pretty sure the problem is behind the camera. :bash:  Great shots!

If you have a DSLR, it is capable of similar images. What are you using? These images of mine are bracketed in Av with a Canon 17-55mm 2.8 IS.

My photos are pretty much as they came out of the camera. I reduced the blue on a few of them because it was too over saturated. Then I reduced the size to 600 X 800 and uploaded them to my photo hosting sites.

I was using pretty much the same settings on my camera for all of the photos:

Date Time Original   2012:06:27 08:41:33
Exposure Time   1/100
F Number   f / 22
Exposure Program   Shutter priority
ISO Speed Ratings   400
Metering Mode   Spot
Flash   Flash did not fire, compulsory flash mode
Focal Length   21mm
White Balance   Auto white balance
Make   Canon
Model   Canon EOS 7D
LensInfo   4
LensModel   EF17-40mm f/4L USM

Try setting your camera to those settings and see what happens. :) I used ISO 400 because it was getting late in the evening and my favorite choices of ISO 100 or 200 were too dark.

I love to look at them but I am not into photography. I always think- floating water is just weird.  Nice shots guys.

I know I read somewhere that you can use the blue or maybe yellow tint option of the canon to help pull out the clouds, ever used it before?

Only sissies use tripods! ;) :) :D Actually, I forgot the tripod at home! :( I'm so used to hand holding big lenses that my tripod doesn't get much use. ;) :)

To clarify, Phool with a tripod, are you suggesting ISO 100 or higher?

Alchase,
A Tripod is the ideal way to go when taking photos, but a work around would be higher ISO. 400 ISO would have done nicely in my situation, but I prefer to use Low ISO settings to get better contrasts, saturation, and Low noise.

I use the lowest ISO I can get away with and still get the shot, less noise.
