Title: Anyone willing to share advice on the Copalis unit?
Post by: kglacken on June 29, 2012, 02:14:47 PM
I have a friend who has permission to hunt a small piece of property for bear starting in august, but it is not big enough to hunt all day and sitting in a stand without bait makes it tough for us to sit still that long. I like to cover ground but dont know where to start really. I want to head over there and learn the area some more, but gas is expensive and I would like to avoid spending a ton of money on gas if possible. I would be willing to share any info on the St. Helens area in return for Copalis information! Thanks in advance. Also post up some pictures of bears from that unit if you have any!

I sure wouldn't put much time into hunting bears in that unit. I'd go somewhere that isn't so flat and brushy.

I can't think of any unit I'd rather not hunt more than the Copalis.

My wife got drawn for this unit last year and I looked all over that damn unit, didn't see any deer, any elk, no bear, saw some old old sign but nothing within the last year.  I did see a huge bobcat though... Maybe it's just because I'm an eastsider, but this unit was terrible and I will never go back!!!

Have you hunted the unit before? I could tell you where I have seen bear before but it would not matter lots of bear in there. Shoot me a pm about where you are looking
