Maybe my gun just doesn't like them but, I won't buy anymore.
This is 150 yds from shooting sticks:

I'd try a different weight. :twocents:

Every gun has a personality. The gun that left the assembly line right behind yours might like them--yours doesn't! :dunno:
-
I took some apart once, they had 10 grains of powder difference in one box. They shot better than that though, gun must hate them.
-
I'll stick with the Noslers. Tried to save $10/box. Did the same with Remington Core-lokd and the results were similar. Not near as bad but similar.
-
I hardly shoot factory ammo other than stuff I run through gas guns(AR's). I have noticed that factory Hornady Ammo has really improved over the years. Super Accurate out of my Grendel and Sig 716.
-
My pard bought a few boxes to form in his 06'ai. That gun ripped a .2" group with them enough times to make me think they can't be all bad.
-
my06 likes 150 fusions. wont shoot 165s though

One would be hard pressed to top a .2 group with factory ammo.

And here I thought you were talking fletch.......

:yeah: If you reload your own stuff it makes a hell of a difference. I was shooting 180 fusions and switched to 180 Hornady SST with varget and I went from 2 inch groups to 0.2 or better (its hard to measure). If you want to go real cheap, Lee makes a hand press that can get you started for $30.

Rifle for bear and the boys' deer hunts. Gotta get it ready too

Accubond

Accubond
I completely agree but, Accubond price :thumbs down:
-
Very true I reload though but I do remember when I was buying then I hated it
-
My sako didn't shoot them well either.

How many different weights did you try?
I'm surprised by a couple of you guys, thinking that you can go to a ammo section in a store, pick up one of the "many" boxes of shells surrounding you, shoot it and decide that the entire brand/model of round is crap for your gun. Well I've got news for you, every brand in the store is going to have models that shoot like crap out of your gun, it's your job to weed them out and find the model that shoots well.
Same goes for hand loading, just because you load it by hand does not necessarily mean it's going to perform the way you want it too, you need to experiment with different powder loads and bullet weights. To think you are going to walk in there and pick out the perfect match for your gun out of all the boxes sitting there is a bit optimistic don't you think?

I had a buddy did just that... bought a rifle, bought 2 boxes of Remington core-loks... damn thing shot patterns.... "had to be the gun" since his other gun shot those same rounds great.... :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: 400.00 later in "accurizing the gun", he finally listened to me because the damn core-loks still would not shoot in that gun.... bought some Federal Premium ammo... first 5 rounds were under a quarter at 100 yards.... :bash: :bash: :bash: I should have convinced him the gun was bad and offered him 200.00 for it.. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Well i think for my rifle 7mm-08 fusion only makes two options 120 or 140. I wanted to stay with the 140's tried didn't like the results.
-
I'll just stick to the Accubonds at $29/box instead of paying $20-$22/box for who knows how many boxes to find a *cheaper* option.

After all, how many rounds do you shoot out of it every year? One box will likely last you 5+ years if you store your rifle in a safe. Start a savings account cookie jar in your bedroom right now for your pocket change, I bet you can save the $2.00/year difference by the time it comes to purchase the next box. ;)

About 4 boxes a year. 3 people shooting it.

Might be time to take up reloading. :twocents:

It's been long past that time. The wife won't authorize the initial outlay, even when shown the cost difference. She also doesn't want it going on in the house since it's "dangerous". You have to understand, I'm dealing with a woman who is farther left than anyone you can think of. She hasn't said it but I'm sure her stance is that, when I can't afford to buy ammo anymore, I should probably just sell the guns and quit hunting too.

I ran into the same thing you did a couple of years ago. Always shot 180 grain coreloks out of my .300win mag and they did great, then one year I started shooting all over the target. So I bought a box of partitions, and fusion, no good shot all over the board. So I went into Kesselrings gun shop and ask them what they thought. The guy sold me a copper cleaner and told me to use it like the directions said and then head back to the range. I figured that it wouldn't really help because I always kept my rifle clean with "shooters choice" a pretty good all in one cleaner. Anyway I figured I better listen to the expert and I tried it out. I was absolutely amazed at how many green patches I got, took me a week of letting it soak all night and cleaning it the next morning before I started getting white patches. I went back to the range and it made all the difference. The Coreloks shot ok, partitions did real poor, and the fusions did better than the coreloks. I've been using the fusions on mule deer and Federal trophy tip for elk. Long story short, make sure your rifle is clean.
-
went from core-loks to fusion 180's a few years ago & what a difference. played awhile but the old rem 742 loved em. couldent hold up & ended up kicking the bolt, but they were nice while it lasted. looking for a new driver in 06 ?

HUH... WHAT ? What Cal. you shooting ? I rarely buy factory ammo BUT if I had to buy factory ammo it would be Fusions .. I shot them out of my .270 and my sons 25-06 and they shoot extremely tight groups ..One thing I have to say is this :dunno: :chuckle: if your trying to group bullets to brag to your friends about I recommend using a bench and sand bags ...Trying to hold tight groups from shooting sticks just is crazy and not counting the fact at 150 yrds ...All I know is my kid has used Fusions on 3 different deer and they layed them out .... :twocents:

A .2" group seems exceptional to me. escpecially from a 30 caliber where every shot should make a .3" hole in a paper target. :dunno:

A .2" .308" group measures .508"......you are thinking in terms of gross.....groups are measured in nets.
One of those 150 fusions killed a bull at 350yds quite nicely too.
-
I wouldn't write off a bullet/company because of performance issues with one gun/barrel length. I have two Savage model 99C's in 308. Same barrel length, same year of manufacture. They are as close to identical as two guns will get. One will shoot 150 gr core locks beautifully. The other one patterns like a shotgun at 50 yards. The core lock is a great bullet, it just doesn't get along with that particular barrel.
I have a Weatheby Vangard in 22/250 that hates every bullet I've ever feed it. Except for 50gr moly coated vmax bullet from Hornady. But with that bullet it is the second smallest grouping rifle I own. And the one that does better cost one whole heck of a lot more money.
I have no experience with the Fusion bullet, but federal is a top seller so I'm assuming they have their act somewhat together. And the ammo ive used of theirs will get the job done. I'd recommend trying the Fusion bullets in another gun sometime down the road.

Ah, I understand now. I had to use google for some help but now I get it. I have always measured the extreme spread for my group sizes.

This is Awesome
I have been wondering for a long time how my "internet friends" could shoot .2" groups or .3 MOA out of big bore rifles.
I am so going to start Bragging about 1/4 MOA groups. :IBCOOL:

Sorry for the thread jack BTW (Back to our regularly schedualed programming)
looking at the doubleJ's target the first thing I think of is the bullet not being stabilized but we are still guessing on the Caliber/ weight?

Oh yeah good point. I remember a guy on here asked for recommendation on a round for hunting and everyone was recommending a round that was too light for the twist he was shooting.
SkyBuster, looks like your biggest group is 0.5 inch.

Shooting a .308 Not grouping for bragging, I was grouping to make sure the rifle was tight for hunting. We use shooting sticks to hunt with so I used what we use in the field.
