I drew a Winston cow permit this year and was wondering if anyone could help me out with access? From what I understand most of the unit is locked up solid. Does anyone know of any road numbers or certain areas within the unit that may be accessible from oct. 6-12? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as this is my first time drawing a west side tag.

you should be able to get in on the winston creek rd side.

I had a Margaret tag last year. When I drove down the day before Wey had the Winston and Margaret closed. They opened up about 3ish.....pray for some wet weather.

Buy a Mt. St. Helens Tree Farm map. Call the Weyco access line (866-636-6531) for updates on what roads are open for scouting. Load a mountain bike, come down in September, and find your elk and at least two backup bands. When opening day rolls around, the gates will either be closed or open, but you *should* be able to at least walk or bike in. If the woods are closed for fire danger, respect the closure and STAY OUT.
Scout, scout, scout. You can hunt without scouting, but your chances suffer. Cow tags are hardly guarantees.

The western most part of the unit near I-5 holds a ton of elk.

I had the tag last year. Don't worry about access, every gate that wey co. owns will be open, and I mean everyone!
