Title: Long Island Elk

Post by: TheHunt on August 14, 2008, 09:57:34 PM: Buddies of mine hunted there about four years ago. They went back but you need to get there early to get a good camp site. Lots of bear too. The elk like the tall grasses in the morning. I think it would be a blast to give it a try. You also need to have knowledge of the tides.

Post by: shanevg on August 15, 2008, 08:19:45 PM: I've never been, but from what I've heard it gets VERY crowded and it is VERY thick but you can get some monster elk in there if you know what your doing. Also, I've been told to watch the tides so you don't have to drag your boat way out over the sandbars.

The reason it is crowed is because there is only like 4 legal camp sites. That is why it is crowed. There is an abanded road that cuts through the middle up to the top. If you can find an old map you can see it. You can use that map to get around.

Yep, and a canoe or sled type flat bottom works the best.
