Well this years going to be interesting. It my first season with a treestand. Ive hunted archery for bout 7 years without getting anything, no wait i shot a grouse at 32 yards. Does anyone have any tips for me? How high do i put my treestand, I hunt basically in western washington ryderwood, capitol forest areas. I kept saying a teestand will do the trick for me and well I hope this years the one. :chuckle:

Tree stand over bait should get her done. I have read a min 20 feet to get high enough so that the wind will not be an issue for deer on the ground. I usually put mine 20-30 ft depending on terrain and brush.

The treestand does not always do the trick. I have hunted out of mine several times and never had too much luck. I like being on the ground and covering ground like that but sometimes the tree stand is nice! My advice to you is to get a quiet one if you are going to use a climber. and cut branches off trees you want to sit in well before season. The noise you make heading into the woods is critical. I see more deer from our hang on stands then i do from my climber and I think the ability to slip into a fixed stand instead of climbing up the tree makes a huge impact on the amount of animals I see. :twocents: Goodluck!

warm boots, not moving sucks! oh and a nice ass pad
p.s. throw a salt lick out and a trail cam for a month or 2.

scout scout scout. trail cams are you best friend. dress warm, even in september, its chilly in the woods before the sum comes up. did i say scout? how about trail cams are your best friend?

7 years is some tuff luck. Treestand for deer can be good. Its about picking the right spot and patience too. Dont drink coffee that morning! :yike:Comfort will keep ya in it longer. Warm clothes. Book? oh yeah phones off! :bash:

from ground level up to my treestand platform base, I like it to be 16-18' up.
I use Lone Wolf stands, 3 fixed and one set ladder sticks and one climber.
Prefer the fixed but the climber has its times for use.

Be patient and stay in the stand. Buy a little electronic yahtzee or poker game. I usually go 25-30 feet. Hunt near fresh sign.

I would get a PSP or a Nintendo ds or a good book it can be real boring sitting in a tree all day

please don't be stupid by not wearing a harness. you WILL fall asleep while using a treestand. the harness will keep you from a deadly fall. use a cord to pull up your bow and other things. be safe
