I read this article and was surprised to find that there are a ton of "orange/red" colored rockfish I could be keeping instead of reporting them as a protected yelloweye or canary rockfish, I definitely know what an adult yelloweye looks like but the Juvenal surprised me as it don't look even close to its adult family.
Admittedly I have reported some of these species as canary rockfish or yelloweye since I didn't know there were a dozen other red/orange rockfish available to catch and keep out there which may have made their studies inaccurate and thus contributing to the implementation of some of the restrictions we have now. I printed the photo and will have it on my boat for sure !!!
