Post by: Dirty Mike on July 18, 2012, 02:21:44 PM

You can never have too many arrows. I personally like a whole bunch of 'em. I have 11 right now because I just switched shafts. I'm getting really close to ordering another dozen just to have them. Of course, you only need one or two, right? :dunno:

I have 28 arrows with broadheads on them.  Plus probably another 3 dozen that i use for just shooting and 3-D's.

I have 15. 8 with broadheads and 7 with field tips. I have been hunting with the same 2 dozen for 3 years and am down to this. These will become 3d arrows next year tho. Getting new hunting arrows.

I use most of my arrows for practice and for 3-d shoots. and the only arrows that get waisted are from steel targets or shooting to tight of groups. i will usually get a dozen each year just because.

I usually have several dozen arrows, most of which are brand new.   I like to start with 6, shooting all spring/summer and of those 6 usually at least 3 are still in great shape coming hunting season.  If those arrows all shot true, they will be in the quiver as the first three arrows to use to hunt. I will fill my quiver with the next arrows in line that I shot with before that were proven true.

Depends on how many critters you plan to hunt. I always have atleast 2 dz on hand. I always take atleast 18 with me on every trip I go on. Last year I think I burned threw 2 dz between hunting and 3d shoots. I think I put 11 into critters last year :chuckle: Most end up broken and even if they don't I save them and put them in the pile of kill arrows :chuckle: :chuckle: You never want to get some place and be without arrows. I had a guy hunting with me fall and snap all 6 arrows in his quiver!!! You know how many arrows he brought? 6 :chuckle: Good thing I am like a archery store with all the mixed matched crap around here. I had the same arrows but 1" longer so we made them work :chuckle:

running 18 with a dozen rigged up with broadheads when the season starts. Leave a few with field tips of equal grains for checking the bow just in case there is a hard nock on something.  :'(  :'(

Im one of those tight wads when it comes to spending money on arrows, right now I only have 4 shootable and have the same 4 since last season, i have been luck on the 3d shoots this year though. I also have a wife and 3 daughters that also shoot so the money for arrows is not always there :)

My quiver holds 7.  I always keep the quiver full of broadhead tipped arrows when practicing, since that is the most likely situation when I am hunting.  My case holds 12, so that makes 19.  And there is 6 extras with broadheads that I switch to when I start practicing with broadheads.  Can't keep those in the case, or I'd open the case to find my strings cut.  Never buy only 1/2 dozen at a time, so at some point had 36 total arrows.  Probably down a few from run ins from close shots, Robin Hoods, shots at grouse that embed in some log.

Dam you guys make me feel under gunned. I have 3 that I take into the field, spin tested and tuned. flying the same as field points. Not sure I need more than that  :dunno:

I have atleast a dozen. I only carry 5 in my quiver but always have extras in camp ready to screw on a new Slick Trick Standard.
I also retire the arrow and broadhead after it gets a kill. Gets kinda spendy to do but I like to keep em and put hang em in the racks of the bucks or just to keep my running total of animals taken.

:chuckle: you guys are funny. No we are not packing 18-24 arrows with us in the field. Just a quiver full. Most guys will have 3-7 arrows with them at any given time. If you are only hunting 1 animal then sure you don't need a ton of arrows on your hunt. I have many times put 2-3 arrows into one animal. I don't care if it's a perfect shot or not. If I can stick another arrow into a already hit animal I will do it. SO more is always better for me. Most of the time I have 4 broadhead arrows and 1 judo arrow.

Carp you said it best! After sticking once and if ur still able to get another in em do it!
My dad learned this lesson a few years ago after shooting a nice muley in the late season. Shot it it went about 10 yards stood there for a minute or soo and  fell down the hill to a rest on the other side of a log with its legs pointing to the sky only to have my dad watch it for a few minutes and the damn thing all the suddon came alive again and the chase was on. Ended up getting him but still could have made it alot easier to get another in him while he could have.
The next year my dad shot a cow elk off the same stand and she went about 15 yards and layed down, still with a clear shot and still breathing he put 2 more threw the pump station. Needless to say she didnt get up.  Extra arrows is security, now a 12 arrow quiver is REDONKULOUS!

i like to have at least a dozen, since most quivers hold 4-6. i was hunting one year and my dad had his quiver some how fall off while walking through brush and lost 6 arrows. we found the quiver later luckily. but i have 18 right now and use the same 6 to practice with then i dial in with a fresh six with broad heads.

Me too. I can't bring myself to throw away perfectly good shafts even though they're sized for other bows.

I have 1 dozen for hunting, 6 of those are used for practicing with broadheads shooting at dots. The other 6 got shot one time to make sure they hit their marks, then back into the case.
The broadhead practice arrows will be backups throughout the season if needed.

Then I have/had 1 dozen for shooting groups. 20-40 yard groups eat arrows  :chuckle:
Then there's about 5 half dozens that I bought and tested with different weight tips until I found what my bow liked.

I carry 1 less than my quiver will hold, and fill the empty spot with a "throw away arrow" for grouse.

In my quiver I carry 5. 4 broadheads and 1 set up for grouse. I have extra broadheads and  half dozen or so arrows in camp. You have plenty. Sure I have 100+ at home but thats between indoor target bow, hunting/3d bow. Really dont need anything more than a full quiver and a few back ups in camp.
