I have been putting in for the Desert tag for several years (yet to draw) but I have been seeing ALOT of guys raving about the Entiat tag. I have thought about putting in for it but with the Desert tag an hr away and always hearing how its the deer tag to have its the only one I put in for. So which is the one to have?
My olderst brother drew the Desert Tag this year as well as the Dayton cow tag. ( I also have a Dayton cow tag) ;)

Depends on your style of hunting. Entiat has more opportunity and generally speaking should be easier to get a deer. The quality in the desert is down in my opinion. Back in the day, there were phenomenal bucks to be had out there. Between predation, poaching, and too many tags, I think the typical quality has just tanked. The quality in the Entiat has also slipped a bit but CERTAINLY has a bigger buffer in its system of feeding in big bucks.

Is there place to camp in the Entiat if I drew that tag? Camp I mean a 23' TT. Not plug in camping either! :)

I think there are several archery tags in the chelan area that are better than desert. I dont think I have ever heard of or seen a pic of any archers bucks in the desert of any size..its an extremely difficult hunt with a bow and the rifle guys struggle to put down big ones there

The Entiat tag is the best for real quality as well as just any buck. The Raffle and Gov. Tag hunters usually fill their tag in the Entiat Valley; don't recall any being taken in the Desert.
Plenty of camping and there is a lodge and some good deals on cabins. Joe & Karen Kelly have some cabins in Mud Creek (360) 784-2852. Take a buck in their back yard.

I live close to the desert unit and drive through it most days. I spend a lot of time there and have seen some bruisers. But there are way more deer in the Entiat as long as the weather gets the migration goin. Good luck

I would agree with most, entiat will provide you a better opportunity at killing a deer. I may be biased though since I have the late Entiat Archery tag and live in the valley.

Has nothing to do with over hunting the indians shot them yup once they heared there where deer there. Same thing with everywhere else.

What jstone said......A couple guys ( or more ) ruining it for the rest of us. Just like the Clockum elk. Maybe if this worthless state stops bending over for these guys we could have some REAL quality animals to hunt like the other western states....I'm sick of it!

:yeah: the apps and the wait for that hunt is ridiculous and then to see what gets tagged out there is not what one would think..I wouldnt shoot many of those bucks in a general hunt!

Years ago the Desert used to produce some really nice bucks, in fact that is where the big wigs in the WDFW liked to hunt. Then the word got out and the quality of the animals has slowly declined. There are still nice bucks out in the desert, but there are many more in the Entiat.
