What's the average cost of getting a rug made out of a 250 - 300 lbs. bear? Any ideas? I would like to know ball park figures if I am lucky enough to go shopping.
Thanks!

Probably a grand?

In the 1K range, + or -.

Most taxi's run about 160-180 on avg. If it was that big of bear good chance it would be around 6' range. So 960-1080. Then your tax if you have it done in washington 1040-1100.

Is it all the cash up front or does it vary?
-
Some take cards, some only take cash. Most will only take a deposit, some only a couple hundred others 50% down.

I just got back my wifes bear rug back and it ran me $703. Her bear was 5'6 3/4 nose to tail and was up in the 200 # range. Puyallup valley taxidermy did the work.

A bear that weight will likely be 6 to 6 1/2 feet. Some taxis charge about $150 per foot for a rug, give or take.

That is as cheap as I have heard of in a long time. Was that for a rug with felt and tax? That's only like 125 a foot.

Thank you for all the input!

Yes sir $125 a foot plus and extra $50 to skin the head from the skull. $703 was done and walking out the door.

He must have under charged you :chuckle: 125*5.5=687.50+50 for the skull is 737.50
Plus he must not have charged you tax. Man you got a heck of a deal!
Not in this thread but will you post pictures later. Or maybe you have and I missed them.

If you want a felt border, or even a two tone border it costs extra per foot of bordering.

That is not always the case. A 2 tone border from the taxidermist that I use do not cost anymore. They are the same price.

Eastern wa is generally much less expensive than western.

Go to the bear category, second page. My post is called wifes 2010 bear, 2012 bear rug. It turned out really nice.

Some charge more for the open mouth also. Don't base your decision on price. It is something u will have forever so a couple hundred bucks is nothing. Go look at some work, pick the taxi u like and pay what they charge

My bear was 6' 9" nose to tail, 1150 for the rug, another 150 to bleach skull and over 600 to process the meat (summer sausage, pepperoni and jerky) this was back in 2006, paid a down payment then made payment till rug was done- 10 months......
-
My taxidermist buddy in wyoming charges $200 a foot, with a 6-8 month lead time. I had one done back in 2010 that was here on the westside for $150 a foot, still waiting on that one...

I was gonna just say that. If anybody wants quality work if they get a bear or anything over near Colville, PM me and I'll tell you who to use. He is very good and you'll be very happy. He's done a coyote and a Bobcat for me. I've seen his other work and it's damn good !!! Oh, he's not expensive. Cash might work. He can also bring it to the westside for you to meet him. He delivers boats from Colville.

I know a certain Creative taxi in the wenatchee area that I would not use! Over two years on the wait, problems with the skull (I have since done all my own skulls) Among other things
