I've seen bulls, cows, and calves in there.  Seems I always saw more elk during turkey season, and more turkeys during elk, go figure.  One August I was driving the Fisher Hill Rd., come around a bend and there were 3 nice 6 point bulls running down the fenceline within 50 ft of the road.

Yes there are elk here.  It depends on the weather.  There are elk on thr gameland.  But the game dept shuts the gates the day after deer season.  Don't get me started on that one.  I live on Soda Springs Road .

Few elk in there you don't see them as much as you used to see. Some good size bulls have been taken out of there in early 2000's.

Few and far between at best. I have hunted up here the last 4 years in a row. Seen elk 2 out of the 4 years and shot 1 elk out of there. I have burned a lot of boot leather in doing so as well. The heat kills us and they spend a lot of time on the wrong side of the hill.

CouesBitten... Fisher Hill rd is my stopping ground.. But usually take a right on brewer for my deer..  Rattlesnake seems to be where most of my tales have came from.. I kinda figured the more you went towards Mt. Adams the more elk you would see. I totally agree with the heat thing though.. I can remember numerous days just hunting in T-Shirts late into deer season, BUT when the Nasty weather rolls in it gets Nasty FAST.  I plan on putting in some "Search time" here in a few weeks.. My hunting partner flicks sticks so im tagging along for his trip and hopefully wear out these new boots trying to kill two birds with one stone if ya know what I mean...

Fisher Hill Rd isnt in the Grey Back Unit.  And just for the record, there are very few elk near the SE side of Adams.  (Unless you're down on the Kreps Ranch)  I have only seen one small herd up and around King this year.  See them in early spring but I think they go high into the Rez after that  :dunno:

Wazukie.. Northwestern Grayback-ish??.. :chuckle: I do alot of hunting on the east side of the river by the base of Fisher Hill in the Canyon and i'd think i'd crap my pants if I saw elk down that low anyways.. Its a love/hate relationship with those "Hills"!! The elk probably think the same (Atleast with the Hate part)  On a scouting trip a few years ago I saw a bunch of Cattle having issues up towards the top of the mountian, you know, Right near the top, where you can take one step down hill and dam near travel 10 to 15 feet, Kinda funny seeing em negotiate outcroppings and what not.. Too bad it wasnt cattle season!! I'd hate to have to pack one out!  :lol4:

I think I would go with what Carp and Jerbear have to say about the Grayback unit.  They both live there.  I know the West Klick unit well as I live and hunt here.  I know there are elk in the Greyback, at least the N.E corner of it, but that's real close to the Rez there.

I know there are much better places to elk hunt, but since I live here this is where I hunt.  It's kinda nice to hunt all day then come home to a shower and warm bed every night.

Fisher Hill Rd isnt in the Grey Back Unit.

It was the western border until 2009.

LOl, right you are, but key word, "was".  Just hate to see another person get popped hunting elk off fisher hill thinking they were in the greyback unit. :chuckle:

Grayback is eastern WA, West Klickitat is western, different tags and different seasons.

Have never seen an Elk there yet but did find a nice 4 point elk shed near the Indian reservation.

I expect to see plenty of them this year since I have a late Turkey tag

No there are not many elk in 578 or 388, you can see them in the Spring on the Refuge and some on what we call the Plateau. I don't think it is worth the time, most of the Elk go back up to the Res or stay on the Refuge!!!
