OK please dont laugh but I am confused :P Looking at harvest reports for the surrounding areas and personal knowlegde of 251 how can there be so many Elk in mission and so few in the areas above it???? And why is 251 now closed to bow hunting????

That's a good question. I would guess it is because of the "any elk" season that has been going on forever. All units north of hwy 2 are managed for mule deer, and therefore, elk are not welcome.

You might want to read the "Game Status & Trend Reports" available on the WDFW website.

Actually, this might be even better reading...the Coluckum Elk Herd Plan:

Huh? rifle or bow? I have known where a herd is every fall in that unit for years. You telling me I missed that in the regs? Son of a gun... :(
And, have mercy on me, I am going on about 4 hours of sleep in the last two day, even taking the kids tubing in the heat this afternoon, I am shot...better hit the sack...

Iceman, I was referring to the any elk season in the Swakane unit to the north, which girlwithbow inquired about in another post.
