Title: bears near bonney lake
Post by: highmuley on August 05, 2012, 03:29:05 AM: Just moved from roy to bonney lake. I know there's some country to hike near by (greenwater, etc.) But I haven't been. Does anyone have any insite into this GENERAL area? Is there any decent bear country. Not lookin for anyones sweet spot so calm down. Just a little "direction". Lemme know. Thanks. PM or post

But, that place is so close to the Seattle area, you might have a load of people up there. I'd buy a permit in Enumclaw at Work-n-More ( think that's the name ) for the timber company land. It's all behind locked gates along 410 out of Enumclaw. At least go talk to the fellas at the store. That's what I did when I was working over there and never saw anybody behind those gates. I did see elk and a bobcat though.

2) You would see TONS of people behind those gates if you choose to buy a permit on line.
3) Wilkeson/Carbonado and the 70 rd sytem in Greenwater are all good places to hike and look for bears. Find a gate without a rig buy it and start hikn...

Post by: notellumcreek on August 05, 2012, 09:11:11 AM: You also might want to consider up above Carbonado, I have heard about plenty of animals taken out of there every year.I think you can purchase WR hancock still... 4 different gates along hwy 410 to access with the vehicle permit, pretty much unlimited access for foot off of 410 into hancock area below federation forest. I have had a pass for 4 years now and still havnt even seen a bear running around, but I have came across plenty of sign. Above greenwater you get out of hancock area and most roads are accessable without permit. Just start exploring, you will find the spots :tup:

All (nearly) the land between greenwater and enumclaw is timber company land. You have to get just outside of greenwater to get into some forest service land. There is a lot of good bear country up there. Just get out and check it out.

I meant to say walk in permit in my comment somewhere... oops :bash:. Thanks for the correction, could have led this guy into some trouble

I used to live near there and I hardly ever saw anybody else except at the gate.

My roomate has a kapowison pass and he said he hasnt seen too many people back there yet... but its early still.

get out of your truck and walk 30 ft and you wont run into many people up there..

I buy the pass and dont run in to many people but I also go to the walk in gates and put in miles. even on the main roads I see less people then I do in green water and wilkeson.

The passes didn't sell out until April this year, I think.
