Title: Trail camera white out pictures
Post by: sirmissalot on August 09, 2012, 08:07:23 AM: So I have a stealth cam sniper I think its called, its IR and out of all my pictures about half turn out to be all grey and you can't see anything. The camera was recently set in some standing timber maybe 25-30 years old, so its fairly dark in there but it does let a decent amount of light in. The pictures appear to be at night going by the time stamp, is this caused just by it being a crappy camera? I've had it happen before but I just got the camera out of the woods where its been sitting since November, and its frustrating that half the pictures I can't make out whats in them. I've never got good night pictures with this camera, maybe its just time to set it in an obvious spot and let someone take it

The following picture shows it not quite as bad, but still hard to make anything out. I'm thinking this camera just sucks but maybe theres something I can do to help it.

Post by: belkaholic on August 09, 2012, 12:53:52 PM: mine does the same thing. if you look at the times, they are all around dusk or dawn. i think that it does this at low light. if it is completely dark or completely light out, they look great. what sucks is that dusk and dawn is when most of my pics are taken. :bash:

:yeah: It would help if I cleared the brush away from the front of the camera, but that would radically change the natural crossing. So I'll just live with the dusk/dawn whiteout... :(

You may be right--I was under the impression that the cameras were all made in the same place, but there's too much variation in the case shape and lens/led configuration. I've been tempted to try a Stealthcam, because the price is so reasonable, but I have never subscribed to the "low bidder" concept. My Wildgame camera was a Sale item, but I lucked out, because I'm pretty happy with the job it does...

I have the same white out problems with my trophy cam, At dusk/dawn. Wheever possible I always point my cam twords the north, or darker side of the area. Is that what you mean with camera direction?
I have 5 different styles of cameras, and so far trophy cams are the only oes that have this problem...... I had 2 trophy cams until one of them quit all together. The other isn't far behind
It sucks, because when they are working well, they are most productive cam.

:yeah: I agree. Unleess trrophy cam prices come down to $120 or less, I wont be buying them anymore. Just about get the same quality wiyh the $80 5.0 tascos.(2 of them for price of 1 trophy cam)
