so my mtn bike is pretty much totalled after last night. :bash:
shopping for a new to me probably CL deal. looking for good forks, disc brakes, thats about it. not looking to spend a ton as im not like super mountain bike guy but i do use it quite a bit.
anyone got anything to look for? model/brand/options
-
I just got a couple at Costco, very nice bikes. Disc breaks, front shocks, nice shifters. About $ 350. A friend of mine had a $ 2500 bike & rode this one and was really impressed. Not sure of model but only ones they had. Mike

Giant, trek or specialized will most likely fit the bill. All high quality bikes that can be found around $200-$300 for a hardtail w/discs. Giant manufacturers all three brands just to different specs.

any models to look for so i can narrow my CL searches? or keywords that might help?

Specific Models might be tough because they change every year. Maybe search by frame size and add in "disc" and "hardtail".

i dontknow much about frame size or tire, what should i look for? im 6' 185

I have a Novara Aspen from REI. Disk brakes, shocks, etc. I don't think they sell it anymore, here's one that is similiar to mine. Been a great bike so far!

Most likely a Large.

went and looked at a hardtail kona 29 and lunch, ouch! sweet bike though..

29er is the way to go!
I picked one up this spring. It is easier to pedal than a 26" wheeled bike and is a lot more effecient. It will keep some gas in your tank once you get to your spot. My riding partner is on a 26" bike and works WAY harder than I do when we are going up hills or even on the flats. His cranks are churning while mine are just turning. I have a GT Karakorum 1.0, it's an awesome ride, probably more than you want to spend though as it sounds like you might be looking to use it for behind gate type hunting. I use mine on the local trails and it's a blast!

kona is expensive. walmart offers a good bike also but you have to order it ship to store. so if your looking new thats the way to go. tell them when you order it not to have it assembled. then send me a pm and set up a time to bring it over to my house and ill build it for you. i am a certified bike tech that worked for rei as a bike tech for 2 years.

best bike bike walmart has if your looking for a full suspension. if your looking to go hard tail let me know and ill search around for a good one for yah. simply because walmart doesnt offer a decent hardtail.
-
i have a full susp bike now and i dont think the rear really benefits me for the extra cost...?
thanks bloodhound, see what you can turn up for a hardtail
-
I buy used and cheap. If it gets stolen from you, you will not be as ticked off if it is a 700 dollar or more valued bike.
-
this is how it works, the more travel you have the harder it is to go up hill. the suspension eats your momentum by turning it from forward force into downward force. the best bike you can get counting out money that is, is a cross country bike with lock outs on the suspension. to when you go down hill you unlock and get the cady comfort, and when cranking uphill you lock it up and have no travel to get up that hill as easy as possible.
fill) pm me and let me know what kind of money your looking to spend so i can find the best bang for you buck.
