I am getting ready to send a scope in to Leupold and have them put a BDC reticle in a VXIII.
I would like to provide ballistics on a Weatherby 30-378 shooting 180 grain Nosler Accubond.
I have been playing with ballistic calculators online and have no idea what I am doing and cannot for the life of me put something together that I trust since it is all new to me.
Would someone be willing to provide or does someone have ballistics at 100 yard intervals up to 1,000 yards? With 300 being zeroed.
I may have them do a BDC up to 700 or 800 but would like to know what the bullet is doing out to 1,000 anyway as the range at Mica I put up the 1,000 yard target a few years ago for the 50 cal and it would be fun to plink at it with my 30-378 as well.
.507 B/C velocity at muzzle 3420. zero at 300 yds with velocity of 2826 at 300 yds. Energy at 300 yds is 3193. Path of bullet up to 500 yds at 100 yds increments according to Weatherby is 2.5, 3.1, 0.0, -7.5, -20.
If someone would be confident enough in understanding and calculating the ballisitcs out to 1,000 yards I would be grateful.

The best way to gather real ballistic data is to head to the range and shoot at extended ranges and see what it does. I did that and then just set my ballistic calculator to match my actual drops. Load up 40 rounds and go shoot!

Thats definitely the only way to check. Not sure if you chronographed or not, but even if you did, most chronographs are not 100% accurate. The only real way is to go and shoot the rifle at all the distances and record your data. A guy can get away with shooting 300, 700 and 1000 and get pretty close, but a confirmation at the other ranges would be good. Also, with the BDC, any elevation changes, barometric pressure and temp are going to affect how accurate the turret is. Something else to think about.

I shoot at mica a fair amount and would be willing togo shoot and spot with you if it fits my schedule. The idiotfactor will grreatly increase out there this time of year tho. Everyone trying to sight in for hunting.

Give this a try. I have used it quite a few times and verified the data with another ballistic computer and with live range time. Its pretty accurate.

Ballistics programs will get you close but real world drops are the ticket. My ballistics program came out with 10" more drop at 1000 yards than Demontang's figures and that's using Spokanes elevation of about 1843ft. 10" is a truck load of difference to me. :o

Another thing to think about at mica is that the elevation is 2300 or so feet and the longer targets are at a fairly decent uphill angle while closer targets are downhill angle.

Could be weather, altitude or even that the load data is a little off. I have a ballistic calculator that uses my 0 weather and adjusts for the current weather. It also calculates coriolis effect, but that's 1000+yd stuff. The program I use is always within a click all the out to 600yds... I just have to make sure that I am within tolerance on my load data, and weather are spot on. If I do my part, and range properly I am always close enough for a kill.

Yea I just throw in 1843 and got 187.7" drop at 1000yds

i sent my scope in for a target turret bdc, there is a form that you fill out, asking for things like caliber, bc, speed, altitude and temperature. you shouldnt have to worry about supplying them the balistic data.
