Taken by my brother in law out hunting this morning. Looks pretty fresh to me....
-
Hard to tell by the pic. It looks like its a day or so old, best way to tell is how hard it is.
-
Via text he mentioned very soft....appeared to be close to a bed..........
-
As hot as it's been the last few days, I'd say within 12 hours...much more than that and it would be hard and discolored :twocents:
-
It's black--that means whatever ate it ingested a lot of blood, too.
-
Really? I'm thinking straight up berry poo?

Might be...I can't tell from the picture if there are seeds in the poo. Or hair, if it's feeding on a kill. I'm no expert. I just like to examine the scat to see what the critter was feeding on.
-
If its been blazing hot out in that area...and its still soft/moist its within a day or much less. Just give it a smoosh with your boots....depending on the weather, color, texture, if it crumbles apart or is jam like, etc...should give you a good idea.
Older poo will discolor (from outside to inside...as it dries from the outside in), get hard (dry), etc....its hard to really tell from a pic...texture (and taste) mean everything. :chuckle:
-
think i'll be taking a walk myself in the area tomorrow morning.....i'll do some more thorough investigating then.

The best to tell how fresh it is is to taste it. :yike: If you can taste and identify what it was when eaten then it's really fresh. Let me know what you find out. :chuckle:
-
Was it chewy?
-
stick you finger in it. if its still warm then its less than a day old. if you can stick your finger in it with ease, but its cold, then its a day old. if you have to force your finger in it, then its more than a day old. if you force your finger in but the fibers break apart, it is 2-4days old. if you force your finger in and it starts to crumble its a week old. if you stick your finger in it any more than that, you must be enjoying it and your a sick puppy... :chuckle:

Take a poo next to it. Start your timer. Sit and watch it til it gets to the same condition, then look at your timer. That'll tell ya how old.... :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
Okay....so I need eat berries...check......digest said berries....check.....drop a duece next to it.........can do........then..........as it ages and dryes pry into my own dookie to check the age and rate of deteriation.
Check!
-
No need to go through all that H2O :bash: , your just checking for moisture content.... :chuckle:
-
I usually take a stick and check to see if its still soft and how much moisture it still has, I would say if its still moist that its less then a day old all depending if it has been in direct sunlight, I always wait a day or two to pick up after my dog cause its easier to pick up when its dried up

Ha ha, I wear gloves when I hunt and just check it with my hand. A couple days ago I picked some raspberries and ate them...tasted a bit off. Went for a second taste and realized I was tasting the bear poo I'd touched with my gloves a few days before!!!!!!!!! Needless to say I now take my glove off before eating any berries. :chuckle:
-
:dunno: looks like it otta be nice size
