I have wanted to get into bow hunting turkeys. I was wondering how many people kill turkeys by head shots? Thanks Jason

Two with the bow here, no head shots. I picked up some of those neck chopping type broadheads, so will have at least one along in the future.

More then a few of us on here chase thunder chickens with a bow. I have used the guillotines and bullheads. Both work well but they are not made for long distance shots. More like 20-25 yards past that they are very hard to control. I still like a broadhead much better.
Here is my 2012 tom. I Drew a fall tag this year and hope to shoot another.

Have wondered about the head choppers since game regs say "the head must remain attached". Never understood that one since there is other ways to maintain proof of sex.

Kind of a stupid regulation for turkey since the rules say gobbler or turkey with visible beard. Let's see someone explain a hen w/o the visible beard still there, but it has its head. :dunno:

Where do you shoot them with a bow (without shooting off their heads)? I'm not good enough with a bow (yet) to make head shots on a turkey...thats why I usually use a shotgun.

Wing butt or top of the thighs threw the hips.

Its the most fun you can have turkey hunting. As for shots i like the facing away shot. it gives you the opportunity to anker the bird in a spine shot and still hammer the vitals (because they almost stand vertical) :twocents:

I too like shooting em in the back between the wing cups..anchors them to the ground better and it takes out the vitals too. Those puffed up birds are tricky..so study some pics!

Just remember on those puffed up birds ...Shoot them high ,watch them die - shoot them low and watch them go !!!! bEEN THERE AND DONE THAT :chuckle: Not that I miss much :chuckle: but here ya go ...I called a bird in a few years ago and with bow in hand and I watch this bird slowly coming to me just screeming his head off . He gets to about 20 yrds puffs up like volkswagon and I pull back and whack feathers fly everywhere , he jumps straight in the air and hits the ground gobbling and back to strutting he goes , I am like WTH.. He turns and faces away So I then nock another arrow . He turns broadside and whack again and the same dang thing happens again :bash: :bash: Needless to say it happened 3 shots in a row and obviously all 3 shots went threw the breast and left a sheet load of feathers on the ground with no dead bird .. :yike: So now it is a Texas heart shot or wing butts like Carpsniper stated above ...or a head shot :tup:
