Looking for advice on the best places to lay down some bait like grain, cob, deer corn, and apples. Also, with archery season opening in less than two weeks is it too late to even worry about it?
-
Nah, if you have some apples and cob or whatever throw it out. They will find it quick.

Ok thanks. Will crab apples work? My sister has a tree in her yard; she said I can take all of them if I want because the deer around her house seem to love them and she don't like the deer coming in her yard all the time. I would just hunt her yard but she lives in a snoody neighborhood not to mention within city limits.

Go knock on some doors, especially the ones with apples layin in their yard. Deer will find them fast. As for the best place to put it? Look for well used intersecting game trails.
-
They will eat them. Especially if you sweeten the deal with a little cob or something else. A 50lb bag of sweet cob at your local feed store is pretty cheap. Try and pout it out under cover...base of a tree or something.

I thought it was illegal to bait in this state?

Apples of any size will be great! Crab apples are good! Pick as many as you can find and he deer will love them. As stated sweet cob works too but not as cheap as apples.

illegal to bait bears but legal for deer and elk.
-
Definitely not to late, I would go to your local farm/feed store ask for a #50 bag of wet rations. They will devour it. Don't dump it all at one time! Mix in some apples on the side.
-
what are wet rations?
-
Its never too late for apples. They'll find it within a couple days if they are around.

I do not recall seeing or hearing about many bucks taken on trail camera and then shot during season ...Has anyone done it ?
-
I've got about 30lbs of crab apples that I got off of one tree. I am hunting in an any deer gmu and I am not a trophy hunter just want meat in the freezer. so the first legal deer to come in range will feel the sharp end of my muzzy's. School starts on the 24th for me so I am hoping to fill my tag before then. I am just worried about the baiting of public land. I don't mind if my efforts help another hunter but I sure would be angry if they get there first and spook anything else that may come around.

Wet rations are a grain mix rolled in molasses freaking deer and elk love them. I can dump huge pile of sweet apples right next to a pile of rations and they will eat every last morsel of the oats and just lightly graze on the apples. Give them a try a see for yourself.

Sorry I couldn't give you a hand with that grain barrel this week. I am working late and am stuck on family stuff/household stuff that needs worked on asap the rest of the time. So busy I didn't even get around to sending you a text. Again, I apologize.

No worries, take care of family and work first. I am a family man myself; I know the routine. You have done more to help me fill my tag than I could have ever expected. Just let me know when you have a few minutes to grab it and we will get it done. I am out of town til friday night, but we can get it done pretty much anytime/day after that.

Wet rations is normally called wet cob. It's a mixture of corn oats and barley soaked in molasses.

AAAaaa call it what you will, thats just what I've asked for at the local cenex and at the feed store up in Old Town ID, it works really well
