Title: which 20 gauge should I buy?
Post by: Naches Sportsman on August 21, 2012, 10:13:15 PM: I I have $600 to spend on a good 20 gauge. Which one is the best fit if I use it for clays and birds half the time?

For many years I hunted with a Browning Side by Side and I could never figure out why I miss 75% of shots, until one day I went to a trap range and an old timer showed me the problem, it was a poor fit.

Wing masters a great guns, the express though IMHO is a POS. When you say Browning are you thinking Citori or A5?
The A5's in 20 gauge are very pricey. There is one at Gun Broker for $360 right now.

Post by: Wacenturion on August 22, 2012, 09:09:53 PM: Look for a nice used Remington 1100 20 gauge with 26 inch barrel an interchangeable chokes. Falls right in that price range if you check different sites.

lots of used browning and beretta OU's out there for short money, very few in 20 gauge.

if $750 is your bottom dollar, get a cz OU. they are a great value for the money. I think the canvas back model comes in that price range. you could even save a few hundred and get their base model called the "mallard" for around $500 or less. IMO this gun is a great weapon for the price, it has double mechanical triggers - much less prone to failure than other cheaper single trigger guns in your price range. double triggers let you pick which barrel (and choke) instantly instead of hitting the selector and then the trigger. it also has interchangeable chokes, which make it one of the most versatile OU in your price range. you would have to spend a few G's to get a new OU with double triggers from the big boy makers. and last but not least the fit and finish of the CZ mallard may not be the best out there, but its hands above its competition in quality. its also balanced properly and handles like a game gun ought to.

for the love of god don't throw away your money on a Mossberg O/U, mechanically they are garbage.
