On Monday, August 27, the California Senate voted to enact Senate Bill 1221, a measure that will ban bear and bobcat hunting with hounds. The bill will now head to Governor Jerry Brown’s desk.
The highly controversial measure was introduced by State Senator Ted Lieu (D- Torrance) in April after anti-hunting organizations failed to have California Fish and Game President Dan Richards thrown off the commission for a legal mountain lion hunt out of state.
“From the get go, anti-hunting legislators have been out for revenge,” said Evan Heusinkveld, USSA’s Director of State Services. “Unable to get Mr. Richards to resign, they instead channeled their frustration towards sportsmen and used every political trick in the book. They are punishing a group of people who have done nothing wrong. It’s up to the Governor now to do what is right and veto SB 1221.”
Governor Brown will have until September 30th to sign or veto the measure. It is critical that he hear from sportsmen and women immediately because he could sign it any day before the deadline.
Take Action! California sportsmen must band together.
Leave a message for Governor Jerry Brown at (916) 445-2841. Ask him to VETO SB 1221.

this is bad ....I am telling you if we do not do something extreme sometime soon we are scr--ed! We all need to give up our love for hunting for one year and let them eat the lack of revenue they get from hunters ..This is the only way we will ever gain ground ...we all talk about ways to fight with them but they ALL BACK FIRE ...Its time to do something that will get their damn attention ...I know someone will not agree with my extreme comments but seriously what else is going to up end them :dunno:
So, to keep our privileges and make them our rights, you're suggesting that boycotting the WDFW has anything to do with it? BH, the WDFW has nothing to do with our rights. As a matter of fact, if we're able to include hunting as a Constitutional right, the WDFW will need to watch carefully how they restrict hunting.
The hounding and bait ban was passed by a popular vote in this state because of misinformation by out-of-state enviros and animal rights wackos. The hunters would not organize and shelve their petty differences to get together and fight it. That's why we lost those privileges and why they lost them in CA. We need to solve that problem and band together to make hunting and fishing a Constitutional right and the animal rights wackos will lose their power.
Boycotting the WDFW will do nothing but show the people of this state that we're capable of bankrupting the department. It'll cause a rise in taxes to pay for it out of the general fund and we'll no longer be able to say "we pay all the bills and do all the work. Give us our rights." This is not a good idea to forward our agenda to the people.
