Title: Remington 700 MLS Question
Post by: jrebel on August 23, 2012, 11:35:56 AM
I picked up a Remington 700 MLS and need to find a ramrod.  My TC ramrod does not fit, the diameter is to big and it will not go into the ramrod lug.  Any suggestions as to what replacement ramrod would fit??  I don't want to order one just to find out it will not work.

Thanks

Johnny

Not sure about the ramrod, but if you have trouble with it misfiring. Take the bolt apart and clean the spring. The only complaint I have with mine.

I just bought a musket cap niple for it.  I am not fond of the #11 caps and like big holes for the flame to travel through.  I have cleaned the main spring and the entire gun.  It does not look like it was used much, but it also was not taken care of like I take care of my guns.  For the price I could not pass it up and hope it is a shooter.

Thanks for the info.  I may just buy another spring to have as a back up.  They are really cheap at Midway.com

Problem with this is that flash chamber and the flash hole are the same size - only the stack is larger.

Yeah...long time debate....What you posted is definitely fact, however the musket caps have never, and I mean never failed me.  Maybe cause the burn slightly hotter????  or maybe cause they have a larger stack it allows just that much more flame though the hole??  I don't really know, but I like ummmmm.

The one down side is I cannot find a good cap holder for them, like you can for the #11's   :'(

Im eyeing one at a local pawn shop, they are legal in wa right?  The one I'm looking at has a small hole on the bolt which exposes the cap to the elements.

Yes, they are legal.  Don't know about the hole....I just took the plastic shroud off and it is 100 % legal.  How much they asking if you don't mind me asking.  I paid 100 for mine without the ramrod.

Yeah, the deal I got could not be passed up.  I already have a TC and figured I would pass on the savings to my hunting partner.  He will get the Remington after my late muzzy mission hunt.  It will be with me until then so I have a back up just in case ;) .

 :yeah:

Thanks for saying that...I was thinking it, but just couldn't pull the trigger.   :chuckle: :chuckle:  I have only hunted muzzy for a few years and have never had a missfire yet.  I use musket caps and pyrodex loose powder.  Like my pappa always said...."if it aint broke, don't fix it" and that combo works well.

I did clean mine alot after every hunt sometimes twice aday. You be suprised what pine needles do when your pushin brush. To be honest I hated My remington. Now I shoot a black diamond With no problems. I think it also takes a while to figure out each gun when it comes to black powder. Maybe I didnt Know is much as I do now. What ever the case I didnt like that gun nearly as much as the elk did.
