Hello Everyone,
I just moved up to Spokane area about 3 months ago from Nebraska. I am an avid bowhunter, duck/goose hunter, pheasant hunter, and by the nature of my surroundings I plan on being an elk hunter. I have talked with a few guys here and there about hunting and it seems to be a lot tighter on the laws/rules in the state of Washington compared to Nebraska. Is there anything anyone would like to pass along that I may need to know about making this transition into this sportsmans paradise up here? Also I have always and only hunted from a treestand, and 95% of everyone I talk to says they stalk animals around here. Is stand hunting good to do in this state or am I going to have to get used to stalking and chasing deer? Thanks for any input I appreciate it and look forward to indulging in what Washington has to offer

Welcome to Washington . :hello:

lots and lots of great animals are taken from the stand every year .... oddly enough, I think the muzzle loader and modern fire arms guys do more "stalking" for their deer than most archery guys that I know of .... of course it all depends on where you are hunting...
I might be way off but it seems like more archery guys might stalk the mulies more than the whitetail... :twocents:

It is really hard to stalk a whitetail with a bow. It is way more easy to stalk a mulie.
And it is fine if you use a treestand, but these are things that need to be brought up un the deer hunting forum.
Anyways, welcome to Washington
One thing that may be different is that you can't bait waterfowl here, and you can't use electronics (like calls, and decoys).
Oh, and one thing that I learned about your area duck hunting is don't go to the Pend Oreille River without a boat :chuckle:

Sounds like you have been talking to the modern firearm hunters since you have to chose from modern, muzzle, or bow. Genral modern season sucks because only open for about a week in most places and just look for deer on the run in public areas. Also the west knows how to call points on a buck. No more of that pure BS calling a 5 point a 10 point. Because think about it, a hunter from the east tells me he got an 8 point and makes me ask ok, now is that a true 4X4, 5X3, WTF? Over here we say 4 point and you know right away what the hell they are saying and if diff then the hunters say 5 by 3. The law only one side has to be 3 point or better as an example law. The law is making more 4 point minimum areas. Remeber that is just one horn with 4 points 1 inch or longer.

Wolves in your area are considered coyotes and are open year around. :yike:

The bowhunting rules are strict and complicated. Go to a good shop, arrow weight, broadhead type, etc. I know an out-of-state guy that got in trouble cause he did not check, assumed it was the same. He got a separate ticket for each illegal arrow, they were too light and used Mechanical broadheads, cost him $1200.00. :yike: :yike:

Thank you for your input. I will be reading the regs and probably just learning my way for this year. I appreciate it
