Title: need some help! ever have any problems spraying wd40 on your outbord motor?
Post by: buschcrawler on August 24, 2012, 12:53:22 PM: been having a discussion with a friend about spraying down your outbord motor with wd40 to help prevent corossion i've always done it now he's saying it's bad. need some input!!!

Post by: CP on August 24, 2012, 12:56:51 PM: WD40 is great stuff but it is a solvent and should not be used as a lubricant or as a corrosion preventative. Use it to clean and to displace moisture then wipe it off and apply a layer of grease or oil.

Post by: bloodhound on August 24, 2012, 01:12:36 PM: there is a product just for that call corrosion guard. we normally keep it stocked at work but we are out. but that is the stuff you are supposed to use. if your local just give us a call and ill order you some in.

Post by: magnus100 on August 24, 2012, 08:14:37 PM: I always sprayed it all over my outboards that lived in a salt water slip and it seemed to keep the corrosion down for me. I am sure there are better products as listed above but wd40 worked for me for 15 years plus.

WD-40 isn't good for much. Maybe removing Obama bumper stickers.

They asked if we had some WD-40 to clean their guns.
We helped them out.
They were both carrying Glocks.

Post by: Heredoggydoggy on August 24, 2012, 11:32:02 PM: I only use WD-40 in my blackpowder gun after I clean with hot water, to make sure all the water is out of the gun. WD-40 is a water-displacement chemical, not a lubricant. Years ago I used it to clean my skeet guns, and after a while I noticed a gummy crud building up in and on the gun. Went to a good gun oil and had no problems after that.
