For a scout next weekend for a change of pace deer hunt. I hinted there 40+ years ago and remember good times and a few deer. How is the hunting there now. Anyone want to share where to start like 142 and Glenwood rd area and south.
Also will be taking a mid day look for Calli ground squirrels, anyone seen any in that area, have read there are a few.

Where are you looking at going? The Simcoes are closed to everyone right now for fear of fires.
-
Looking at making a run down for a checkout next weekend and camping at the north klicitat bridge crossing on 142.

If you take the hwy from goldendale to glenwood. Once you cross the kickiat rver the Little critters should be all over the slash piles have fun.

Len, right now everything in Klickitat county is pretty much shut down do to fire danger. Even the private timber land north of Glenwood in Yakima county is shut down. If you do decide to come down here, make sure you dont find yourself in an area that is shut down. If you do, you will find yourself with a pretty hefty ticket.
And just to let you know, the hunting is nowhere near what it was 40 years ago.

Anyone got a link to rd closures or land closures? I'm looking and looking and find nada.

I was over there last week posting closure signs on our land which is International Forestry Consultants and all of Hancocks land is closed as well. Hancock supplied the signs and on the signs they listed all land owners that were closing their lands due to extreme fire danger. Heres the list: Hancock Forest Management, Stevenson Land Company, Broughton Lumber Co., Kreps ranch, LLC, Kreps Family, Longview Timberlands, International Forestry Consultants, Western Pacific Timber. All properties are closed to public entry in Klickitat, Yakima and Skamania counties until further notice. From the base of Hwy 23 through Trout Lake to Glenwood to Appleton everything was closed, the only land that I saw open was DNR. Hopefully we'll get some rain soon and they will lift the closure. Good luck all. Heres a picture of a couple bucks from last week over that way.

now you went an did it branden!!! we have been on 1oclock shut down for weeks in the klick.
-
I'll pray for rain, I may be back over there next Thursday, what side will you be on?
-
It has to get soaked before anything will open up. To much risk for them to gamble on a chance of a fire.
-
For right now, I will probaly be on the green diamond job, the boys are supposed to be moving up to glenwood wed. I hope.

can you folks expound on the fire closures? where do I find this information? so is soda springs closed as well?

If its private land its more than likely shut down. DNR hasnt shut anything down yet.

I have a post on here already with more info. Almost everything from 97 to glenwood is closed, no joke. You can call all 15+ timber compaines if you like and track down the info. It's the hunters responsiblity to know what's open and whats not, not the land owners. If you are hunting above soda then YES it is closed because you would be on WPT and all there land is shut down right now.

ok. the wildlife are a is not closed. there were several hunters in there today. I didnt see any deer hanging :(
But...then again, deer probably shouldnt be hanging in this heat! :bdid:
-
Yeah that's not private timber ground. That's why it might still be open. I know I have been beating people out like crazy. A lot of road hunters this year looking for places to shoot deer.
-
Yea, and now we have a fire burning off of fisher hill just up from the bridge :bash: Last report was just over 100 acres and spreading up the hill very fast. Hope all people out here are careful!!!! Today, several parked right in front or behind the closed signs, most were hunters and fishermen, go figure :dunno:

Maybe it is just me, but I can understand how people can road hunt with a rifle, but I think it would be extremely difficult to road hunt with a bow :dunno: maybe its just me.
That sucks that a fire is going...it is very, very dry in there this year. God bless everyone down there. we need to pray for rain.

Wazukie.. Where exactly off fisher hill?? Down by the river or up towards the bird farm?? I got a buddy up there right now with a bow.. haven't heard back from him since yesterday.. This fire really worries me.. really close to my stomping grounds and can't find any info on google, Etc... when I talked to him yesterday, he said it was cutoff shirt style hunting, I've been following the weather for the last month and a half.. Gotta be crunchy critters up there right now.. When was the last time "The Klick" got any substantial rain fall?? :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:
-
Last January, when I was in there and there was about of foot of soggy snow up on top!
-
Mark, the fire was down toward the river, its out now. We haven't had any substantial rain in months and yes the woods are dry and crunchy right now. I am just glad that all the campers are headed home today. Very busy in Glenwood today.
-
Thanks wazukie!!! I missed a call from him while I was napping (Cause im an old fart).. But atleast by the missed call i know he's alright... Just watched the news though and more heat for the Portland-Vancouver metro area is on the way this week (Mid-80's-90), BUT.. They did show rain on saturday-sunday.. HOPEFULLY some of it makes it over the mountain..

You havent been around much :chuckle: Tons of people hunt by just driving the roads and waiting for a deer to be less then 100 yards and start flinging arrows. Doesn't matter what the weapon choice is. On private ground the deer are less jumpy right now and stand close to the roads. Prime target for road hunters that have no permission to be there either. I kicked out 3 groups tonight alone! Doing nothing but driving the roads and trying to jump out and shoot a deer.
