Title: Raccoons
Post by: Elk whack master on September 02, 2012, 09:58:10 PM: Is there any calls that coons prefer? I had one come into the yard a week ago and tryed to call it in last night. I started off with mouse in distress and after a few minutes of that the mice 10 ft away started to talk back. Then tried vole squeeks still nothing but something moving around in the bushes, coon or possium. Fighting coon then coon distress. Still nothing, so i tried a chicken distress. I was sure it would come to that.. nope! Last bee bee cottontail, and finally after 50 plus min I called in......... THE NEIGHBORS LABS!! :DOH: :chuckle: :chuckle: Please help me get a coon so i can make a hat. :hello:

I have a bucket set up with old bread that they have to reach into to get.... So birds can't get it.... I have a platform set up to where they grab the bread, get on the platform... Then it's a clear shot from my back porch with a safe back drop.... They meet a 22 or 410 depending on my mood..... I quit skinning them.... I can mail you one if you like..... Get @ 2 a week on the average..... One week I got 6.... 2 with one shot and a quick reload one night.... :tup:

Post by: deaner on October 02, 2012, 12:21:15 AM: yeah well pet dogs and cats can host parasites too. i hung out with those coons for a long time, im perfectly fine. they never bit or scratched and i never pet them, although i would let them touch my face and hands. could tell they had sharp claws but they never came close to scratching me with them, seemed like they made an effort not to. believe me i had lots of people at the time telling me it was a bad idea, but nothing bad ever came of it.
