After hunting this "wonderful" state the past 5 years (after moving from NV) in the general season and having no luck, I decided to give archery a try. I purchased a bow back in April and have been shooting like crazy since then. I set my focus on getting a doe since I knew I would have more chances at harvesting one. On Sat. morning a friend and I got up nice and early and headed out to one of his spots to hunt. After about 30 mins in he area we started to see deer. We saw does and bucks, but none of the bucks were legal. I saw a small group of does at 80 yards and decide to give it a try. I snuck to 40 yards when the wind changed directions and they busted me. No biggie was seeing deer and having fun. After more atempts and getting busted we moved to a new area. We were driving out when my buddy saw one on the side of the road. Put the range finder on it and was 40 yards. Drew my bow back, release and shoot completly under her. Not sure what happened but she was standing at a good bit higher up the hill then where I was shooting from. After that we called it a day, it was getting hot and he had family in town.
Didn't go out yesterday, had to many honey do's at home.
Today buddy and I got up nice and early for hunting. We drive back up to where we saw all the deer and it was still dark so we just sat around drank some coffee and waited till we could see. We stopped at a road that we were going to drive but just as we were getting to go down it we saw brake lights. Plan B. Luckily he knows a different route so we decide to go that way. As we drive in I look down the side of the hill and see deer, we hadn't been driving more then 5 min. We stop and take a look, and we see a buck, only a 2 point again. I told him I'm going to try for a doe and I get out and sneak out and get to 40 yards, draw back release, and shoot right in fron of her. :bash: I told him to stay there and I was going to sneak around in the direction that she went to see if others were still there. I see that they are and I see one but can only see her head. I step about 10 feet to my left and see another next to her perfect quartering shoot. Put my ranger on her 28 yards. Pull back and whap I got her. :IBCOOL: I ended up tracking her for about 50 yards then had to drag her for a couple hundred mor to the lower road to retrieve her but it was worth in and I had a blast doing it and can't wait to do it again.
