So last year my son started boy scouts, he went to summer camp and earned his archery merit badge. He has had the fever. He has wanted a bow.
I stopped today at cabelas (i had a few gift cards). And bought him a Diamond Edge. My son is 13, he is 5'10" 160 pounds. He has a 28 inch draw and i had them set it at 40 pounds.
Gotta start somewhere. He is rifle hunting this year but i see an archery hunt in my future with him. Only problem is, i have an old bow that i cant do to many upgrades to.
I did buy the package deal, but i think the rest could be better. Need to get a fall away rest for him.

 I really like the whisker bisket for young hunters might want to leave it one for a little bit

Ya stick with the whisker for awhile. Its safer and easier to use. Its actually a good rest to about 35-40yards then accuracy starts to suffer I think. :twocents:

Your son's 13 and 5'10"?!

I wish it had the whisker, it has the octane hostage cheapo rest. It is going to work for now. And he turned 13 last week. And he wears size 12 shoes. Im scared.

Yeah, my boy is 6'2", size 14 shoes and 150lbs. Good thing he has his momma's metabolism. He is a hurdler, 4x400 relay, and javelin thrower. He also is a bow snob... He just earned $1500 and is planning to spend it on a new Hoyt. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

I love my octane rest, mind if I ask why you don't?

I havent shot it yet. But my buddy said they are crap. We will shoot it for a while and see how it works out. It is the cheap 20 dollar one so i am guessing it is the first thing that will be replaced.

Boy scouts is a good deal. It's what got me into shooting and then eventually hunting. Im actually doing my eagle project this weekend!

My 10 year old saved and saved and bought that Razors Edge and we both love it.

Way to go Dad. Getting your son a better bow than you is the right way to get him into the sport. I bought my son the Razor last year and he has already won awards with it. The setup is great for a new archer. I agree with the putting a drop-away as soon as he is ready. It will really improve his grouping. He will learn quickly to draw smooth enough to not have problems. That bow will last him a long time with great results.
