Title: Ballistics for my savage 30-06
Post by: Michelle_Nelson on August 22, 2008, 11:17:47 AM
Does anyone have a link or a program to find out the balistics for my Rifle.  I surfed the internet last night and found a few different charts but they either didn't have my rifle or my ammo.

I have a Savage Model 110, 30-06.  I'm using 165 gr. Remington Corelock Soft Points.

Jackalope you sent me a link once for it but I can't find it.

165grs.... muzzle velocity-2825  energy..2924
at 385 yards.......2023 fps.....1500 ft lbs
400 yards 2000 fps....1465 ft lbs

at three hundred.. -five inches
at four hundred-20 inches
assuming it is sighted in three inches high at one hundred

I believe this is from a 22 inch barrel

I'd zero at 200 yards. So if you're shooting at 100 yards, you want it 2 inches high.

+1
Without knowing the sprecific BC and muzzle velocity of your load the +2" at a hundred is a great rule of thumb.  It means you can essentially aim dead on from 0 to 250 yards or so and not have to worry about any correction.  Your bullet will hit 3" high or low of your aim point within that 0 to 250 sprectrum.  Takes all the guesswork and worry out of it for about 90% of you shots.
