Title: hard lesson
Post by: GEARHEAD on September 10, 2012, 11:29:56 PM
missed a steep up hill shot on a maybe 5x6 muley with a few stickers. ranged at 48, put the 50 pin on him, all felt good and steady and i let her fly. fly right over the shoulder by an inch anyways. buck fever stopped my brain i guess, forgot to hold low, that damned gravity thing i guess. it wont happen again, and i know where he lives.

Sure wish I could tell you that I have no idea what you're talking about.  Too bad the reality is it gets me all the time.  Not as much since getting the Leupold RX-1000, but it still does when I think I don't need to use it.  If you are like me and that had been a little 2X2 you'd have put it right through the heart.  I'm beginning to think the big ones have an aura that changes the pull of gravity around them. :dunno:

Hope you get a chance at redemption

I missed a great whitetail once from 15 yards for the same reason. That should make you feel better.

My hunting partner missed an elk at 7 feet   :o this year then I missed my first shot at a 4x4 elk because I didn't have time to range but I didn't miss on my second shot. :IBCOOL:

Hope that helps

For the same reason being "Big Antlers".

No cut difference would make you miss a deer at 15 yards.  Again, gravity changes within close proximity of large horns and  antlers. ;)  It could happen!

Dont worry, about this. The first time i had a big 8 point whitetail in Kentucky come walking by my stand, i had forgot my release at home. I was so pissed!!  It happens, just keep on trying!

That's the fun thing about bowhunting.  We all have a lot more stories to tell than one would get in a lifetime of hunting with the rifle.  Plus missing him the first time will make the experience all that much better when the bone hits the ground next time.
