Title: My first scouting trip on mountain bike...
Post by: Atroxus on September 16, 2012, 03:32:21 PM
Well I learned several things today.

1. I can indeed get farther into the woods faster on a bike than I can on foot, and it's a lot easier on my gimpy foot/leg.

2. In order to hunt from a bike I need to get a bike mount/rack on my car, because with a bike in the trunk there is no room for a deer.

3. I seriously need to get in better shape because my endurance blows when it comes to hilly terrain.

So it looks like this year I will be doing my scouting on bike from now on, but will be hunting on foot again at least for this season. Will be trying to get my endurance up and get a bike rack on my car so I can hunt from a bike next year though.

Just got back from scouting for elk with my mt. bike for the first time, as well.
Yeah no kidding about getting back into the woods deeper on a bike.
Love those down hill sections.

Ditto.  My dad and I picked up mountain bikes this year for elk scouting.  They will be part of our gear from here on out.  We had to push them uphill in a few spots but coasting downhill sure was nice.

I have a bike rack but lost the key to my hitch so it ended up in the back of the truck anyway.  How the hell do I get that Master Lock hitch off???   >:(
