Title: Guys weekend, need some advise
Post by: sea2summit on September 17, 2012, 04:14:47 PM
So I'm getting ready to head to A-stan and I've got two college buddies coming from out of town for a long weekend.  Happens to be the opener for waterfowl.  We're looking to maybe shoot some ducks morning/evening and do some fly fishing during the afternoon.

Need some recommendations on places to start looking, maybe I'll get a scout trip in if I'm lucky.  They're flying into Seattle but we're way flexible other than that and not opposed to driving all night to get to where we need to be. Was thinking area 5 or 3.

I know the typical response to these threads and I appricate the fact I should scout more and I would love to but I work some strange hrs and the odd weekend or month strait, so family then hunting doesn't give much time to scout outside of my immediate area.

Thanks,

Josh

Hey actually washington fish and wildlife website has some newer stuff if You didn't already check ? They show a lot of  hunting areas and I know its very public but if you get there early enough you can prob  have a  pretty good hunt. The plus is, there should be lots of local birds in those two areas, but i don't have a specific area to give ya sorry i just cant lol  hope you burn em good luck

I have no problem helping you out. Try the Skagit Wildlife Area Samish Unit. All I ask is that you PM me after your hunt and tell me how you did.
If you have acess to a small boat look at Lake Terrel. Pheasants up there too.

Good luck

Just a heads up. If you don't lke crowds, don't go to the Skagit Wildlife place. It is like the 4th of July on opening day  :yike: :chuckle: It is a start though, and that is probably where I would recommend  This is in region 4 though, and there is a lot better hunting in region 3.

Thanks for the feed back so far.  Skagit sounds like a nice spot but man looking at the map I can see why it would be waaay crowded. Nobody’s got any good pointers down south? Or are there even going to be ducks moving around down there that eary?

Where in area 3 you looking to go? You say your going to a-Stan so im thinking you have access to JBLM, some good area on it. Would limit out almost everytime I went on post last year. Mallards, widgon, ringneck, golden eye. You got access to a boat?  PM me and I can hook you up with some spots.

Not focused on a single area yet just lesser populated good chance of hitting a bird or two and doing some fishing Man weekend. 3, 5, 2, ?? doesn't mater just having a fun weekend out of town.

Same can be said about Lake Terrel.  If your interested in Whatcom County shoot me a PM.  Can't promise limits but I usually come home with birds.  Plus I would have all the decoys you would need.

Then again, I might be deer hunting opening weekend.  Let me check my schedule.

Go to the mountians... Hang with the buds. the opener and a few weeks. Then all the Seattle shooter gomers will be gone and the hunting begins. Untill we get the first push early Nov. all you will be shooting is small locals.
