I'm wondering how many points he gets and how that all works?
He may be on to something? :chuckle:
-
Just remind him to be smart and protect his identity. :tup:Glad he is getting them turned in.
-
Only if they get convicted
-
I heard they don't need a conviction to receive the bonus point reward.
Apparently it's up to the discretion of the officer. I think you need to be sure to ask for your points.
-
They all saved the evidence so probably a done deal.
He knew of several guys that kept shooting animals (and bragging) and wouldn't use their tags or would get replacement tags. He just got tired of it I guess.

Correct on both counts.
-
Werid I was told that the charges had to stick. Hell I could be at about 200 points by now. I need to start talking to a few more people I guess.

6. Citizen reward for reporting violations - bonus points: A person who provides information which contributes substantially to the arrest of another person for illegally hunting or killing big game or an endangered species as defined by Title 77 RCW is eligible to receive ten bonus points toward the special hunting permit drawing for one application category of deer or elk special hunting season permits.
-
See that is what I mean. I call in trespassers and people that have broke fish and wildlife laws and never hear anything about a arrest or charges.
-
If the information leads to an arrest (a conviction is not necessary), then you are eligible, not guaranteed for bonus points. That's where officer discretion comes in.
I'd find an enforcement officer would is willing to give out points, and then follow up after you've provided information.
-
Yeah that's more like it :chuckle: I turn more then a few guys in and never hear anything back. Going to have to start changing that :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
I'd guess points are not given for the more minor violations such as trespassing. It's probably more for actual poaching incidents where someone is charged with killing an animal out of season, or something of a more serious nature.
-
I wonder if when a animal is taken "in a not legal manner" like when a person is tresspassing. Is that considered poaching? If so then there sould be some point for me this year :bash:

Well to me there are different "degrees" of trespassing. Did the person know he was trespassing, and did it anyway?
-
We have an enforcement officer who attends all our hunter education classes. He gives out his own cell phone and begs students to call them if they observe illegal hunting activity, regardless of where they are. He talks about giving out points to anyone that reports. I know he's given out quite a few points. :dunno:
-
In all of my cases yes. The yellow signs every 50 yards are hard to miss

There's your ticket to another Skagit bear hunt!
-
They only give them for elk and deer if I remember right bobcat.
I have 2 messages to the local guy here to come seal my cat to get it to a taxi. It's going to be a grill fest when he get's here this time :chuckle:

Oh yeah. I knew that. Just wasn't thinking.
Oh well, I'm sure you could use 10, 20, or 30 extra points for deer or elk. Maybe I'll come down and spend a couple weekends catching trespassers too. I'm in need of some more points too.
-

Correct.
-
I tell you what! I spend more time running people out then hunting anymore. It is getting stupid!
I think I am going to have to have the robo deer start up on my place :IBCOOL:

That's funny. I've joked about going to our local Home Depot and hire some fellows to go poach an animal for me for $50.
-
:chuckle: Now that is funny!!!!
-
When I got points they said that points were only given out for big game violations. Trespassing is not a big game violation, even if you were hunting big game at the time. Poaching, shooting and animal out of season, shooting a spike in a three point or better area, things like that are what you can get points for. No there does not have to be a conviction. You can recieve up to ten points, the number of points and whether you get any is up to the investigating officer.
-
you get points for deer or elk and only in one catigory . must pertain to illegal harvest of a big game species or a protected species i believe . I picked quality elk for my points .
-
Wasn't hunting on private property without permission just made into a Game Violation where you stand losing your hunting license for 2 year minimum along with fines? I think that started this year if I'm not mistaken. That should lead to Carp getting 70 elk points this year.
-
SB 6135, new section 11:
7(4) If a person unlawfully hunts and kills wildlife, or retrieves hunted wildlife that he or she has killed, on the property of another, then, upon conviction of unlawfully hunting on, or retrieving hunted wildlife from, the property of another, the department shall revoke all hunting licenses and tags and order a suspension of the person's hunting privileges for two years.

It does not say up to ten bonus points. It says ten bonus points.

I like the way that sounds!!! If that is the case it has to be some points for me!!!
Who wants to take me elk hunting in the blues next year :IBCOOL:

Trespassing is now a game violation as of this summer. I'm having a brain fart and can't remember right now if it was enacted June 1 or July 1.

I will have to pass this on to some of our landowner friends down near the blues they get several a year it is usually handled by the sheriff I guess they will have to request a game officer.

I think the Sheriff's Office should be able to handle wildlife violations.
-
I meant so they could get points Bobcat I may be wrong, but the sheriff cannot do that I don't think. They had one deer shot on the opener last year that was handled by a sheriff I don't know if it was followed up by a gamie.

OK, I understand. I'm still not sure if a trespassing charge would qualify for points though.
-
From what they are saying bobcat, it just changed so that trespassing why hunting is now a game violation.

I realize that but I'm still not sure it qualifies.
-
If my local guy ever calls to come seal my dang cat. I will pick his brain and let you guys know what he has to say on it.
-
I suspect that trespassing won't cut it for points, but turn them in anyway!
-
If you get points for turning in tresspassers then i would draw a tag every year. Ive never actually called the cops just asked them to leave but some of these guys really make you think about it....
-
Welcome to my world Dustin :chuckle: Try driving down the highway over at our place during the season!!! Like a dang pumkin show all driving back and fourth looking for something to shoot from the highway. No one has any permission and there is zero public ground there. Just people up to no good!!!!
Maybe we can hunt the blues together  Well if you switch to archery :chuckle:
You and joe need more of a challenge now days :chuckle:
-
Ok wanted to bring this back up...
I had my local warden over today and got to pick his brain hard. He called up one of the head guys and talked to him on the phone with me and asked the questions I had given him. The end result is: That is a good question!!! Both are not sure by the way it reads with the new laws they say it should but they are not positive for sure. I guess we will have to wait until we submit the paper work to see what Olympia says about it. The other thing the big wig said was he was not sure, since I would be a victim in the case, If I could get the points. By the way it reads, any person turning in someone that gets charged, can get the bonus points.
So I got my cat sealed and asked a few more questions and all in all tunred out to be a great visit.
Still wish I knew for sure so I could day dream about my 10 or 50 or 100 bonus points :chuckle:
-
bob33: What is his name?
-
this is new to me, you guys are saying points only apply to deer and elk tags? cant use the points for moose?
-

Can't get bonus points for moose, goats or sheep (all OIL tags) no Points!!!

dangerous game, just turn them in and forget the points, help the officer in any way , dont give your info. i turned in 2 guys who shot a bull elk out of season, tried to get my points and gave my name and address. i got a summons for court, they got convicted,i got 5pts and about $ 8000 worth the damage to my house and truck, was robbed twice and still recieve death threats. just turn them in anonomously.

That is messed up, definitely something to consider though. :(

Had something similar happen. Add false reports against me to the mix and its about what i had happen. either anon report or something less savory. :bash:
-
A friend turned in someone for a fishing violation and was rewarded 10 points for his choice of deer or elk. So it's not always a big game violation that's needed to get points

What about giving a work address and phone number instead of your personal one? Or a PO Box or personal mailbox?
