I have a sporterized 98 in 8mm and im wondering if anyone has played with .338 fedral in one ? shot my first buck with her and would kinda like to reserect the old girl.

Are you planning to rebarrel or rebore the barrel?  Unless the barrel is toast the 8x57 is every bit as powerfull as the 338 Fed and would be a good calliber for anything in this state.  The 8mm is a .323 bore dia. and the Fed is .338 and the 8mm has a slight edge on capacity.

Large Ring Mauser with a good heat treat????  If so, it will hold the .338 Federal just fine...   have it checked by a competent gunsmith that does Mauser conversions though..  and if the heat treat is bad, you can have it re heat treated so it will be ok.  Just more money.

It would be cheaper in the long run to leave it alone as is and go buy another rifle.  I have converted 8 Mauser actions into something else and I tell you the parts are not cheap anymore.
