Does any one no any thing about the wildfires in east okanogan, how bad is it, and will deer season be closed. I hope not
-
Head west young man...
-
I haven't heard of anything that far east, there could be, I just haven't heard of it.
-
i haven't heard anything since I heard that the big fires near Coulee City in Douglas County jumped the river into Okanogan County. I hope they got a handle on them quickly. Fires in that country can get nasty.
Right now, the fires in Chelan and Kittitas Counties are getting the most news coverage.

The Leahy and Barker canyon fires have both been contained and are in the mop up stage according to the Inciweb site. Those are the ones up by Grand Coulee, the Leahy fire is the one that jumped the river over into Okanogan county. According to the modis satellite map there aren't any fires burning in East Okanogan county.

Been talking to family in the Okanogan. No mention of any fires yet..........I usually hunt 204, but conflicts with WY may keep me away this year.

http://www.inciweb.org/incident/3261/ (http://www.inciweb.org/incident/3261/)Here are some fires that are going up near the Methow Valley. It is the Okanogon Complex
-
The larger Okanogan County fires are in the Alta (GMU 242) called the Buckhorn and Goat fires; on the hill back of Alta Lake and up Gold Creek near Carlton and in the Chillwist unit 239 on Leecher Mountain northeast of Carlton. Pogue looks safe for now.

Whats the chance these high fires will push deer out of the high country sooner?
-
Since its mostly the low country that is burning. NONE

I was up in the Winthrop area this last weekend and the fires there are by Pateros and Winthrop. The animals are for sure moving around alot and getting the hell out of dodge. I would keep an eye out on where they burn to plan your hunt we are not getting much help from the weather right now. I know my elk hunt got canceled. I worked the Barker Canyon Complex last week and this week and if any one is planning on hunting around Douglas County from about Mansfield north and east to Grand coulee.. its all pretty much burnt. 81K acres.
I was lucky and got my deer the day the fire started.
