Title: quality hunt
Post by: highmuley on September 21, 2012, 09:00:02 PM
Ok. I posted a similar topic about a month ago. I am in the middle of documenting what permits I want to apply for next year. One of them is hunt choice# 1024 (late quality deer modern). The "legal deer" is any buck. In my last post, someone said "there is no late mule deer quality hunt". But, another hunt choice I am looking at is #1103 (late buck). The "legal deer" for this choice is "any white tailed buck". Doesn't this assume than that there IS a quality muley hunt? If so, "any buck". If I did get drawn I would be looking for a 4 point minimum but, does this mean I could take a spike too (in a 3 point minimum unit)? What do you folks think? If I'm missing somethin lemme know. Thanks

I'm a little confused about your questions, but the "any buck" permits are good for mule deer or whitetail deer, and yes a spike would be legal, even if it's a 3 point minimum during the general seasons.

I apologize but, I was confused too. The game rules seemed cut and dry. I think I was more confused by the input by my earlier post. It does appear to me that there are 2 seperate quality hunts. One for "any buck" and one for "any white tailed buck".  I really want the late "any buck" hunt. During the rut after huntin pressure has calmed down. I was going to put in this year but didn't do it in time. Thanks for ur input

Those two hunts aren't "seperate quality hunts", one is a quality hunt and one is a buck hunt.  Put in for both, if you are lucky you will get drawn for them on seperate years and get to use points on both catagories.

There is a muley rut tag for the Dessert unit in late November... so not sure what someone told you .. but unless you are looking for Christmas type tags.. there is a that one.

Ur right. I consider both quality because of the dates. I'm not as interested on the white tail hunt anymore. Over the last 5 or 6 years, the place I hunt, the white tail have been destroyed. We used to se a ton and some real good ones. But not too much anymore. We feel good if we see a handful of does. Hopefuly in November, the deer come out of hiding. I love hunting 204 but is getting worse and worse every year. If anyone has done either of these hunts, post some picks. I've seen some in magazines. That's about it.

No. The hunts I mentioned are for 204 (eastern okanagon). Also, the units I posted, in my last post were also 204. They were not speaking in general. The conversation was specific to 204.
