Mt Adams wilderness has been shut down since last Friday, completely, every trail head. Called the ranger station in trout lake and asked about it being opened back up and the answer was not until the snow flies or late October. 14 points down the drain. I did ask Olympia and the region 5 bio to reinstate my points but they both said it is no guarantee, they will review the circumstances and make decisions after the season is over. SO now it is a waiting game...
Hope everybody that has been impacted by the fires get to make the most of there seasons...

I have been told that WDFW is having meetings to address the points/closure issues.
Good luck.

H. If an applicant makes a mistake, applies for the wrong hunt, and is successfully drawn, the special hunting season permit can be returned to the department of fish and wildlife Olympia headquarters before the opening day of the special hunting season. The applicant's points will be restored to the level prior to the permit drawing.

no worrys chris you will get your points back. hell they will probably even give some extra for your trouble.. :dunno: :dunno: now go kill that cow.  with your kid :hello: :hello:
-
sorry buddy but a friend of mine has the same tag and after a week of talking with everyone in olympia he could they told him that they were sorry and the lickleyhood of getting his points back was about the same as being struck by lightning

Dont take no for an answer. Keep going up the chain. I know that some youth drew the Silver Dollar ranch last year and never got the call for there hunt the their points where re-instated. If your hunt hasnt opened yet and you know you wont have access than go the route of "picked the wrong hunt" as the other post says. If they question that tell them you put in for the wrong hunt because the hunt you put in for allowed hunting. once again dont take no for an answer. So many people will make one call and talk to "who knows who" and when they tell them no they just go with it. Climb the chain and remeber the squeeky wheel gets the grease. Life is to short to loose your quality or bull/buck permit points on something like this.

I like your way of thinking

The wilderness is pretty much burned up, and what isnt will be before they get this fire out. So even if they did open in up I doubt there will be many animals around. If we don't get rain soon I'm afraid it may go around the north end of the Mountain.

cannon-master, the wilderness was closed on friday. Were they calling olympia before they shut the wilderness down?

So, I draw a cow tag for Dec. and kill a bill in Nov. I give back my cow tag and get my points back??????

Keep at it, sucks to be in your position though waiting all these years for a tag and then have the hunt yanked right out from under ya, that's got to suck.
-
I've seen points rewarded back and options to hunt other areas offered here before by WDFW. The hunters had to make the decision what they wanted before the hunt start date. With all the closures this year, I can't see it being any different. Keep on them. :twocents:

I know a guy that drew dayton the year of the columbia complex fire. The state made the offer to him to return his permit and get his points back, he elected to keep his permit.
I'd hope they'd use common sense and decency.

Let's hope the same for those who contact WDFW.

Chapstick anyone?!?! :yike:
About 10 years ago I drew a cow tag over here on the eastside that ended up having the "No leaving the road" restriction placed on it for the whole hunt. Took probably a dozen calls but in the end they gave me my points back......sometimes i think you just have to keep asking until you get someone that gives you the answer you want!
-
Did;nt work for me when I drew a toutle bull tag and they locked everyone out because mt. St Helens was acting up they told me sorry just luck of the draw not there problem that the mountain was acting up. The would;nt let us in but let a ass load of mexicans in when we asked how can they go in if we can;t and they said that they all had beepers on.

I had a friend do the same thing. No chance your friend was named Phillip was it?

Hope it all works out for you Chris. Good luck
-
Not to worried. Just hope it all works out. It just sucks that you wait all this time. Then finally draw a tag and then can't hunt it.
-
hope it all works out for ya..if it makes ya feal any better my idaho elk tag is down the drain..first fire an then today my b-law teacher moved my midterm exam to the middle of my hunt..i wonder if idaho will give me back my money :'(
