Title: now what do I do?
Post by: D-Rock425 on October 05, 2012, 10:51:23 AM
My duck hunting partner just canceled on me for the opener.  Do I hunt solo or try to put my multi season deer tag to good use and go deer hunting.

Time to go chase deer, and find a monster to shoot.

I happen to like ducks allot and at a half pound of meat(estimate)per duck you can put allot more meat in your belly than one rank old buck and have allot more fun than firing one shot and having to pack the whole thing out, HUNT DUCKS.

I have to do so much to get a duck to taste good. Deer is great to me   :EAT:

The very first deer that I shot was in a giant field, that had a small pond (2700 ft.). I spotted this deer about 550 yds. out in this field. So I started the stalk. Right then, I had about 10 teal fly over me and landed in the pond :yike: I wasn't about to go get the shotgun (it was only about 20 yds. from me) for the teal. I continued on and shot the deer  :IBCOOL: When I shot, the ducks flew out of the pond (75 yds. from where I shot) :P Oh well. That deer lasted, and tasted a lot better than 10 ducks would have  :chuckle:

I have only ever had store bought duck which I was not overly fond of. Am hoping wild tastes better. I have had venison before and loved it. So I vote deer hunting. After all like others said even after deer season is over there is plenty of time to hunt ducks.

Unless you plan to hunt on my days off, then I vote that you go for ducks and take me with you.  :chuckle:

I've been debating going for the same reason. Not sure if he's going or not. Helping Brandon cut up his deer last night made me get the itch to shoot something. Saw you dropped off your cooler for him, and I'm letting him use mine too which is early identical to yours. I was wondering how it got outside  :chuckle:

Go shoot your limit of ducks early in the a.m. and then head out deer hunting afterwards. You'll get the best of both...

Best of both worlds. Find about 4 dozen deer decoys and set up a blind in a cornfield.  :yike:

I was wondering if you'd figure out who I was. I actually used to live up the street from you and my parents live up there still. Your woman knows who I am.

My hunting partner bailed too so shoot me a pm if you want some company in the blind. I've got some like new dakota floaters and can hold my own with a call.

She was my neighbor for 15 years. Wasn't going to post her name and not sure if they are married hence referring to her as his woman.  :chuckle:
