Wanting to go get some flounder or sole or whatever them call them and maybe some of those salt water perch i hear so much about. Dont have a boat to get out in so i guess we are looking at piers or shore fishin.
I have no idea what to use for bait other than herring or maybe mussel meat and my salt water fishin seems to be limited to catching the ever famous dogfish. :bash:
I have a wife who says she never catches anything fishin from docks and a 16 year old who has never caught a fish other than a trout an panfish so any help would be great to remedy both.
I know of the piers on Fox Island , Allyn , and Silverdale. Are any of them good ?

25 people lookin at this thread and not one of ya has a idea ?

whoever the moderator is can go and delete this thread if ya like. apparently nobody bottom fishes the kitsap area. lol

I catch tons of flounder from my boat but sorry I can't help you with shore fishing.

You can go to westport for about a hundred bucks a person, and catch a ton of seabass then some lings as well. You can try off the rocks down there as well there has been some posts on here telling where to go, but as far as kitsap I would have no idea. I have property near hood canal, but no bottom fishing is allowed there from what I understand.

Most of these piers will yield, Flounder/soul, Dogfish, rat fish, Bullhead and perch. To get the perch you have to target them around the Pilings. Harper pier and Waterman's off Beach drive in Port Orchard are other options.
Silvers come under Waterman's this time of year and can also be caught!

thank you very much sir. i know fairly well how to catch dogfish , LOL , but what would be a good bait to catch them perch or flounder / sole ?
-
I catch my flounder with point wilson darts while jigging for kings. I bet a lead head jig with a curly tail grub from berkeley power bait would work great for all the species your after.
-
Use to catch them both from piers and shore using sand or piling worms, pieces of little neck clams, small red crabs and hermit crabs from the beach and pieces of raw shrimp also worked. When fishing from the pier, fish next to pilings at different depths off the bottom.

DUDE! You can catch a ton of those sucker from the beautiful sandy beaches up at Point No Point.
Usually poeple just Salmon fish from the beach, and catch those *censored*s as "By" catch.

Cmon guys we all know those things don't really bite...

Brownsville dock will be your best bet... Salmon might even be open now out there... Use the tube worm off the side of the dock for perch and bottom fish.... For perch mid depth to right above bottom... Flounder right on the bottom... I've even caught cod out there.... And yes dog fish... More bullhead then flounder though... I hate catching them... Watch out for their spines around head plate... They HURT... Fished there over 20 years.... Fish the incoming and out going tides.... Going to be a little slow and cold this time of year... Watch the bottom fish warnings for that area or any for that matter... At night they use to squid a lot.... Very fun.... Think they might have banned the use of lights there now but not sure....

I can see the Brownsville marina from my porch. There was just a salmon run that came Through and I heard of a few being caught. I used to catch an assortment of rock fish there. If you want to catch dog fish that is the place to go. Put a half a herring you line and let it sit on the bottom. Make sure you watch your pole though :chuckle: There can be a lot of crab there and can be a pain. You can also try the illahee dock and the one a the state park.

We surf fish for the sea perch and we use clam necks... We have found that after the dig, the perch love the clam necks and broken pieces.... :fishin:

I love fishing for the surf perch. They're a blast on lite gear when you get into them.

I used to slay the flounder on the Fox Island pier. Put a weight on your line with 5 or 6 inches of leader and a small hook with herring. Let the weight sit on the bottom.
