Title: Kennedy Creek Fishery
Post by: seansfire on October 08, 2012, 07:49:49 PM: drove down highway 101 by shelton and found kennedy creek but could not figure out the regs and where to access the darn thing to fish it. i understand the creek is closed waters but the mouth is not or something ??????

also is there actually a good run of fish in there ?

does anyone know who owns the large piece of property across the highway from the mouth with all the apple trees ? there is a road across the highway from the mouth and it crosses kennedy creek. at the bridge one side of the creek is heavily posted no trespassing and the other side is not posted at all and there is a blue gate. behind that gate it would appear to be a old horse pasture with a building back there and several big apple trees. just wondering if anyone knows where i am talking about and if they might know who owns it ? is it state land now with the blue gate an all ?

Post by: BigGoonTuna on October 08, 2012, 09:48:28 PM: no salmon fishing in the area you're describing. the deadline for salmon is the 101 bridge - it's fair game below that. the only odd thing about the regs is that(i believe it said the last time i checked) that 200 yards below the bridge is considered kennedy creek, but further than that the area 13 saltwater regs apply. not a big deal, considering they're nearly the same, just can't keep silvers in what's technically the creek(never seen one caught there).

it's a big mess, i don't have much of a desire to fish there these days. most of the guys are outright snaggers. when i used to fish there i'd park in the little area just west of the bridge before you start going up the hill.

:yeah: I've been down there a couple times when the fire department was called. Too much hastle for a chum IMO.

Post by: lokidog on October 09, 2012, 08:10:31 AM: Haven't fished it for years, but a person can park in the lot with the sign just north/west of the bridge and walk back to the bridge. My first chum was caught in the pool on the downstream side of the bridge, Some people park in the little opening in the trees to the south/east of the bridge but there would often be a No Trespass sign there. Was never sure if that meant the parking or walking through the trees to access the flats or creek. Most people seem to line up on the pool that forms where the creek turns to the north/west about 150 yards away from the bridge, though this could have changed since I last fished it 10 or so years ago. It uswed to have a lot of fish when they are in.

too early for chum there. In november theyre thick as thieves. I believe theres a decent cut throat population still and saw a few people out there this summer.

I grew up at Kamilche and have seen a ton of dudes get nailed for fishing above the bridge. The whole fiasco is not worth a few soreback dogs. By the way, yes there are chums in the bay right now, the tribe has been getting a few around Squaxin Island and Hartstine. The price is so low right now that they are just taking the hens for eggs. I fish chums for eggs farther up the inlet while the fish are still bright. Once they get to Kennedy Crick, they are best for planting in your garden.

Kennedy Crick hasn't had a good silver run in 20 years. You are a couple of weeks late for the big push of silvers in the South Sound. 2 weekends ago the kids and I wound up with a total of 13 silvers from 8-14 pounds just South of the Hartsine Island Bridge. Next year hit it the end of September. We caught most of them casting #5 Blue Fox Vibrax in green, Michael Jackson and pink.
