Title: Last Day Muzzy Buck
Post by: luvmystang67 on October 09, 2012, 09:15:53 AM
Burned my $180+$6.50+$44 dollar multi season tag on a muzzleloader buck.  Last day of that season this last weekend.  Was hopin to shoot a bruiser, but frustration set in and many of my hunting buddies were out of vacation from Idaho elk and for other reasons.  Couldn't justify spending over $200 on a blacktail for meat reasons, so a muley it had to be.

I have a video of the shot that I"m trying to edit, maybe will post later.  Spotted him at 112 yards, shot at ~90 yards.  348 grain powerbelts (jacketed with the plastic tip) with 100 grains of pyrodex.  Cabelas sporterized hawken .54.

We had actually given up on deer for the weekend and were going to try to find some birds, I packed my muzzy as a just-in-case situation.  Had a lot of eyes in the truck and we spotted this guy in his bed.  Sneaked in a little closer and waited for him to stand.  "Snap (1 second delay, not really, but it seems like it takes forever) and then POW!"

Hit him a litter further back than I would've preferred, he took a step right as I was firing, but he was quartering away so it worked out okay.  Went probably 200 yards (slowly) and that was that.

Time to get a second bear before they hole up for the year and wait for rifle elk.

When I run for political office and decide I would like to actually win I'll need to say that I'm a Democrat (just to get the office of course) but nobody will believe me if there are pictures of me with dead deer online.

Keeping my future career options open.

Yeah, they probably have an aroma roughly similar to stale beer, halitosis, clif bars and sweat.  Give them a shot!
