That bullet impressed me a few years back when I was testing bullets - trying to loose my need for XTP's... They stood up to my tortue testing much better than the XTP... + the .232 BC number doesn't hurt my feeling either.... I just wish Speer would make more of them faster.

What sabot do you use?
The company that makes them is Speer. The name of the bullet is the "Deep Curl" The bullets are a hunting round made for the .454 Casull. So they are designed to open up at slower velocities. In order for you to use them in your muzzle loader you also have to buy the plastic "sabots" for the bullet to go in. I use ones from Modern Muzzle Loading Products. Specifically the long black HPH24's. The bullet that was recovered out of the bullet pictured above weighed 298 grains out of an original 300 grains. It also expanded to 1" exactly. So it doubled its diameter. We have killed 7 elk and 4 deer total over the last couple of years. ALL have been extremely devestating.

Probably and most likely a MMP HPH-24 Black Sabot or a Harvester smooth black sabot, either the short version or the longer version..

I think the Harvester is the most popular for the 50 cal muzzlestuffers.
I really prefer the MMP, it has a different polymere formula that allows the sabot to fit the lands and the grooves + in cold weather it does not get as hard as does the Harvester, and for me it is easier to load. On the other hand if you are shooting in really warm weather or with a very warm barrel the harvester does not get as soft with heat as does the MMP.
I have both Harvester and MMP's and rarely shoot the Harvester.
One thing I think you will find is that the availabilty of the Harvester in a local store is greater than the MMP.

I haven't used a bullet/ sabot combo yet. I've been toying with the idea for modern rifle season.

I did not pick up on the fact that you were in Oregon... and shooting conicals...
Since you indicate you are shooting a DISC Extreme... I would still suggest the HPH24 with a .452 bullet. But locally you might only find Harvesters which will work also.
So if you were to move the regular rifle season with your DISC, what might you be hunting... Deer or Elk?

Are you willing to venture out into the world of premium ($) bullets... not that the Deep Curl is not a very good bullet... But I have a bullet that you really might like for both animals - to 200+ yards. But you would have to step up to a .458 (45-70) rifle bullets.

You must be talking about the Bloodline. I just don't know whether I want to spend the $$.
Good enough... the 300 Deep Curls will do the job very well for you. It has a higher BC than most any other open nose bullet and its' construction makes it a very tough bullet. Now you have to find some and some hph24 or regular harvester sabots...

That is exactly what is suppose to happen with that bullet - bonded - controlled expansion ="s a lot of hydrostatic shock in the vitals... I am really glad it worked that well for you... I bet evem Speer would like to see those pictures and the results...

I currently use 100g of pyrodex pellets. But as soon as I have used them all (I have 15 left) I am switching to 777 loose powder. I will stay with 100grains. Not sure if I will go with fff it ff. Sabotloader which do you recommend. Triple F or Double F powder?
Couple of thoughts...
I use T7-3f in all of my cap guns, but basically because I hunt in really cold weather sometimes sub zero... 3f is easier to ignite and when using caps I really prefer it... If it were not for the cold weather I would use 2f all the time. Also 3f is a bit more energetic than 2f.
Which leads to the next thought... 100 grains of loose T7 will provide more energy than 100 grains of Pyro or Pyro pellets... and of of course with the bullet you are using will handle that just fine.
